Closing Date: 08 January 2019
New College intends to appoint a graduate student of the University to the position of Junior Dean (vice Yale Michaels) to start at the beginning of Trinity Term 2019 and to be resident at Castle Mill.
New College has four Junior Deans who support the Dean, the Assistant Dean, and the porters in maintaining security and good order within the College; they may be called upon to act in a number of capacities within the College, but are particularly required to participate in a duty rota that operates between 0th week and 9th week inclusive of each term. The present post requires the Junior Dean to be on call for at least 36 hours per week.
The Junior Deans play a key role in assisting the porters, and they are expected to react promptly but sensitively to any unacceptable behaviour. The Junior Deans are not encouraged to be involved in pastoral affairs relating to Junior Members; these are the responsibility of the College’s pastoral team.
The Junior Deans are required to reside in College – this is free of charge - as well as receiving a stipend of (currently) £1,611 per annum to supplement their other sources of income. Junior Deans have full SCR dining rights (lunch and dinner); they also have right of commons entitling them to free meals in Hall. Applicants who are not members of New College would be expected to migrate.
Further Particulars of the post are available for download.
A full curriculum vitae and a covering letter outlining the applicant's skills relevant to the post should be submitted online by 12 noon on Tuesday 8th January 2019. Applicants should ask two referees, one of whom should be their graduate studies supervisor, to write to Mrs Jacqui Julier, Secretary to the Dean, New College, Oxford OX1 3BN, (01865) 279552 (Jacqui.firstname.lastname@example.org) by the same date. Interviews will be held on Tuesday 15th January 2019.
