About the role

ODI is seeking to appoint an exceptional Director of Finance and Business Improvement. As a member of ODI’s Senior Leadership Team (SLT), the Director of Finance and Business Improvement will take on an institutional leadership role. S/he will work with existing SLT members to strengthen ODI’s impact and influence, as envisaged under the Strategic Plan. This is the most senior finance professional in ODI and will be responsible for the ODI Financial function, regularly representing ODI financial position and plans to SLT, Heads of Programmes and Trustees. Member of the Trustee Finance, Audit and Risk sub-committee and Chair of the SLT Finance Sub-Group.

About you

The successful candidate will have:

  • Authoritative understanding of specialist fields i.e. finance, risk, business planning
  • Substantial experience of working at a senior management level and involvement in the strategic development of an organisation
  • A senior accountant qualification with wide experience of business planning, functional development and performance reporting
  • Specific knowledge of the charity sector, and the not for profit/social enterprise sector, the SORP reporting requirements and of the applicable tax, accounting and legal environment
  • Experience of development of financial systems and planning processes
  • Experience of leading on new financial models and substantial change over significant timescales
  • Track record of identifying and implementing new systems and solutions and achieving measurable improvements in service delivery
  • Experience of change management
  • Strong cross-functional and collaborative working style
  • Strong communication and influencing skills, both written and verbal, including presentation skills and ability to communicate financial issues to non financial staff
  • Strong management skills including performance management, staff development skills.
  • Highly analytical and strong problem solving skills
  • A commitment to the aims, objectives and values of the ODI
  • Knowledge of IT and the IT function
