Hedley’s College is a high-quality specialist further education and training provider. We provide education and training for young people aged 16-25 with a range of learning difficulties and disabilities who require specialist individual programmes to develop their communication, independence, and employability skills. We help our learner make successful transitions into adulthood within the Northeast region.
We are currently seeking a dedicated and compassionate Learning Support Assistant to join our team and provide tailored support to students with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC).
The role is primary based in Killingworth, but you may be required to work on our main site in Forest Hall.
The Role
- Support students with social, emotional, and behavioural development.
- Help students with communication, organisation, and independence skills.
- Foster an inclusive learning environment that promotes independence and engagement.
- Collaborate with tutors and other staff to develop and implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
- Assist in the management of classroom behaviour and the implementation of strategies to support student learning.
- Observe, monitor, and record students’ progress, and provide feedback to tutors.
- Participate in training and development opportunities to enhance professional knowledge.
Requirements:
- A passion for supporting students with ASC and additional learning needs.
- Previous experience working with students with special educational needs (SEN), particularly those with ASC, is desirable.
- A good understanding of autism and the challenges students with ASC may face in a school environment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, teachers, and parents.
- A patient, flexible, and proactive approach to supporting students.
- Relevant qualifications, such as a Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification or equivalent, are advantageous but not essential.

The position is 37 hours per week and will involve working Mondays to Fridays between 8.30am – 5pm - Term Time Only (45 weeks per annum)
