Organisation position and purpose:
African swine fever virus is a high consequence transboundary viral disease of pigs that has resulted in the deaths of millions of pigs and wild boar across Europe and Asia. In order to combat this disease the postdoctoral scientist will be responsible for delivering the scientific objectives of a research project focused on mapping interactions between African swine fever virus and host proteins, with a particular focus on the interferon and autophagy pathways. The position is part of a pan-European consortium to develop an African swine fever virus interaction map, to improve our understanding of the replication and immune evasion strategies of this devastating virus. The postdoctoral scientist will be a pivotal member of the African swine fever (vaccinology) group that is based at The Pirbright Institute and would suit a scientist with an interest and expertise in viruses and host pathogen interactions, particularly someone with knowledge and skills in molecular and cellular virology.
