We have an excellent opportunity for a Legal Assistant to join us, playing an integral part to our Legal department. As our Legal Assistant you will be supporting the Legal team to identify, manage and mitigate legal and regulatory risks. The successful applicant for this role will be able to work collaboratively providing the Head of Legal and team with effective support, enabling the business to meet its strategic objectives.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide support to the Solicitors in the team and Head of Legal, alongside running their own cases. 
  • Manage and responding to queries coming into the team inbox, allocating to the relevant business partner resource
  • Maintaining records and filing systems, assisting with legal projects including research
  • Supporting the solicitors to make sure all deadlines are met, and accurate records of all advice are kept. 
  • Provide litigation support and act as a point of contact on various cases, to ensure that litigation risk within the Society is managed appropriately and the Society’s brand is protected
  • Manage and highlight upcoming legislative and regulatory changes are identified and the business is supported to respond to any changes

Essential Criiteria:

  • Previous legal work experience in either a commercial law firm or in house environment
  • Experience in the financial services industry would be an advantage. 
  • A team player, who can create and maintain a supportive environment
  • Strong level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • The ability to manage a varied workload at pace
  • Excellent critical judgment with the ability to balance risk and pragmatism
  • Effective communicator with strong written and interpersonal skills

Desirable Criteria:

  • Law degree or non-law degree with GDL or equivalent substantial vocational experience gained in a law firm or commercial, regulated financial services business. 
  • LPC, BVC or SQE qualification
