Are you an experienced financial risk professional ready to shape the future of risk oversight within a major UK building society? We’re looking for a Senior Manager – Financial Risk to lead second‑line oversight across Capital, Liquidity & Funding, Market Risk and broader ALM activities. This is a high‑impact role influencing strategic decisions, regulatory submissions and the Society’s overall financial resilience.  

About the Role 

In this role, you will lead a small team providing independent, robust oversight of the Society’s financial risk profile. Acting as a subject matter expert, you’ll review and challenge first‑line in managing, monitoring, reporting and modelling of financial risks to ensure that they are well‑managed as per regulatory expectations and best practice. 

You will also play a pivotal role in shaping and challenging the Society’s strategic use of capital, liquidity and funding resources—ensuring the business remains safe, resilient and future‑focused.   

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Lead second‑line oversight across Capital, Liquidity & Funding, Market Risk and ALM initiatives. 

  • Provide expert challenge to first‑line activities, including models, risk assessments, policies, procedures and risk appetite statements. 

  • Oversee the review and challenge of the Society’s key regulatory submissions such as ICAAP, ILAAP and RRP. 

  • Support and provide assurance through the Model Risk Management Framework, ensuring model reviews are completed to schedule and governance standards are met. 

  • Review high‑impact regulatory returns to ensure accuracy and appropriateness of key assumptions, interpretations and judgements. 

  • Provide oversight of Financial Planning, including challenge to the Medium Term Plan, budget and earnings risk assessments. 

  • Build and maintain strong relationships across Finance, Treasury and senior stakeholders, contributing independent opinion to executive and Board committees. 

What we’re looking for: 

  • Deep expertise in Capital, Liquidity & Funding, Market Risk, and ALM practices. 

  • Extensive experience developing or reviewing ICAAP, ILAAP, RRP and Stress Testing. 

  • Strong understanding of Treasury functions, financial modelling, and the regulatory landscape. 

  • Experience operating at management level within financial services—ideally banking—with some people leadership exposure. 

  • Ability to influence senior leaders and present confidently at Board and Executive level. 

  • Strategic thinker with strong analytical skills, able to challenge constructively and independently. 

  • Degree educated, with a professional qualification in Treasury or Risk Management (desirable).
