Value Stream Product Owner - Savings

The role…

The Savings Value Stream Product Owner (VSPO) will work with key stakeholders at Executive and Senior Leadership Team level across the Society to drive and deliver strategic change for our Savings business.

The VPSO will be accountable for providing value to our customers and members in the most efficient and effective way possible, translating our strategy into action, acting on member insight, being purposeful in how we best use our investment and change budgets, and putting the delivery of customer & business value at the heart of everything they do.

The VSPO will bring extensive digital experience, market insight, thought leadership, and commerciality to our Savings business, drawing on best practice across a variety of distribution channels and product design, and acting as an inspirational leader in shaping and implementing our savings digital & growth strategy.

Working closely with Strategy, Business Teams, Architecture and Change the VSPO will ensure that business requirements are translated into multi-year road maps aligned to organisational imperatives, functional plans, financial budgets, legal and regulatory requirements, and meeting our KPIs.

Reporting to the Chief Customer Officer, the VSPO will take an active role in the Customer Leadership Team working in close collaboration with colleagues across Distribution, Product, Customer Development, Marketing, Brand and Communications.


Key criteria includes:


  • Utilising customer research to work with Architecture, Strategy and Business Change functions the VSPO will need to ensure that change roadmaps are delivered in a sustainable and performant manner, with success measured by the achievement of KPI’s aligned to the strategic imperatives.
  • Ensuring that the deliverables create value, representing customer and business needs, bringing together strategy, commerciality, delivery and optimisation.
  • Empowering teams to taking ownership for agile delivery through establishing consistent and co-ordinated approaches to development and releases.
  • Working with key stakeholders to establish granular plans to deliver MVP and incremental delivery allowing for early realisation of value and faster feedback.
  • Leading a cross functional delivery team of between 25 and 50 change professionals ensuring that planned outcomes are delivered effectively and efficiently and focusing on value creation growth and serving colleagues and customers.


Skills & Experience:


  • Detailed understanding and experience of the Savings market and digital distribution channels.
  • Exceptional stakeholder management, with proven ability to influence at a senior level and across functions.
  • Transformational leadership skills, acting as an inspirational role model and developing team capability.
  • Outstanding communication skills, capable of communicating complex technical problems, strategies and solutions to a non-technical audience.
  • Comfortable overcoming barriers and resistance to execute plans and recommendations.
  • Ability to exercise appropriate judgment when analysing and filtering information.
  • A well organised self-starter, capable of operating independently and under time-pressure.
  • A credible and trusted advisor to the Board and Executive Leadership
