We have an exciting opportunity for a Lead Platform Engineer to join the Platform & Engineering team within IT team on a 3-month secondment. As a Lead Platform Engineer, you will be responsible for the delivery of technical solutions to support the Change Delivery teams, providing the environments, tools, automation, and processes to facilitate efficient software delivery

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the day-to-day responsibility for task and resource management within the team, working closely with a team of 7 engineers support the delivery, maintenance, and support of our platforms, you will also be key to setting the roadmap for platform engineering.

 

  • Working as part of a multi-disciplined Platform team (Developers, Test Engineering, Infrastructure, Cloud & Automation engineers) you will be responsible for the creation and management of all technical environments, associated data and integrated systems across the delivery lifecycle including development, integration and test using both on-premises and cloud technologies and tools as appropriate.

 

  • Responsible for the development and delivery of “DevOps” solutions for the Society including continuous delivery, continuous integration, and automation techniques. Solutions will include the tools required to manage software delivery utilising both on-premises and cloud-based technologies.

 

  • Responsible for the creation and adoption of processes associated with software deployment across the managed environments & subsequent integration and non-functional testing of appropriate systems and services in support of the Delivery Teams. You will Champion a DevOps culture adopting best practice and evolution of tools, technologies, processes, and skills to continue to deliver effective platforms and engineering solutions in support of Delivery. 

Skills and Experience:

  • Knowledge of DevOps and Software Engineering architecture
  • Knowledge of CI/CD software and automation tools including source control management tools, integration, build automation, test automation, deployment, Cloud technologies
  • Knowledge of Infrastructure including on-premise and Cloud models
  • Knowledge of containerisation and micro-services
  • Knowledge of NFT categories and their function
  • Knowledge of reporting, analytics, data modelling and data architecture tools
  • Knowledge of Security and secure code techniques in relation to coding and testing software solutions
  • Strong analytical problem-solving skills with excellent numerical reasoning skills
  • Experience of Software Delivery Lifecycle working with the concepts of DevOps implementations
  • Experience of technologies, infrastructure and tooling in support of DevOps principles
  • Experience of non-functional (NFT) testing requirements including security, availability, scalability and reliability

Competencies for the role:

  • Knowledge of DevOps solutions experience required, including knowledge of CI/ CD pipeline solutions
  • Working knowledge of the Azure DevOps toolset
  • Knowledge and experience of the following technology platforms: SQL, .NET, Azure, any source control, automation and infrastructure tools related to software delivery and DevOps
  • Understanding of DevOps metrics to measure DevOps effectiveness
  • Strong analytical/ technical writing skills
  • Solid understanding of hardware/ hosting platforms, including virtualization and containerization and Cloud technologies
  • Familiarity with CI concepts and Agile-hybrid delivery models
