As a Platform Engineer within IT, reporting to the Platforms & Engineering Manager, you’ll deliver technical solutions that support change delivery across the Society. You’ll create and manage environments, associated data and integrated systems throughout development, integration and testing, selecting on-premises or cloud technologies where they best fit the need.

You’ll champion a collaborative DevOps culture, develop continuous integration and continuous delivery capability, and improve the automation and processes behind software deployment. Working closely with feature teams, Service and Governance, and Infrastructure colleagues, you’ll help delivery teams adopt new capabilities, share knowledge and complete integration and non-functional testing effectively.

What you’ll be doing:

• Build and evolve DevOps capability, delivery environments and non-functional testing support across change delivery team
• Develop continuous integration, continuous delivery and automation solutions that improve delivery speed while maintaining quality.
• Create and manage technical environments, data and integrations across the software delivery lifecycle.
• Design and improve deployment processes for managed environments.
• Explore and introduce tools and techniques aligned with industry good practice, reducing friction and the cost of delivery.
• Partner with delivery teams to understand requirements, support adoption and share knowledge.
• Use meaningful DevOps measures to identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
• Apply secure engineering and testing practices to the solutions you help deliver.

What we’re looking for:

You’ll bring practical experience of the software delivery lifecycle and DevOps approaches, together with the ability to analyse problems, explain technical ideas clearly and work constructively with others. We’re interested in the skills you can apply and the outcomes you can deliver, whether you developed them through a technology degree, technical accreditation or equivalent hands-on experience.

• Experience with CI/CD pipelines, source control, build automation, automated testing and deployment tooling.
• Working knowledge of Azure DevOps and cloud technologies.
• Understanding of infrastructure across on-premises and cloud environments, including virtualisation, containerisation and microservices.
• Experience with technologies such as SQL and .NET, alongside automation and infrastructure tools used in software delivery.
• Understanding of non-functional testing, including security, availability, scalability and reliability.
• Awareness of secure coding and testing techniques.
• Familiarity with reporting, analytics, data modelling or data architecture tools.
• Strong analytical problem-solving, numerical reasoning and technical writing skills.
• Familiarity with continuous integration concepts, Agile-hybrid delivery models and measures of DevOps effectiveness.
