WHAT YOU DO MATTERS…    

River Island is embarking on an exciting journey as the business capitalises on the growth of digital channels and the Commercial Finance team is instrumental to ensuring that River island investments are focussed in the right areas whilst driving greater efficiencies across the business.

This is a critical role with high commercial focus on driving profitable growth that spans the River Island digital business, whether it be investing in technology, finding efficiencies from digital channels, or producing maximum value from marketing.

As a people focused role, success will be dependent on the successful candidate’s ability to connect, collaborate and support key stakeholders, building trust through excellent interpersonal skills and providing honest and decisive feedback to help them make critical commercial decisions.

The flat business structure allows for Finance to influence decisions, drive value across the organisation and identify value added projects that will enable the overall success of River Island.

Key Responsibilities

  • Influence digital strategy and operation through analysis and challenge
  • Drive improved profitability through efficient cost base – identifying and investigating opportunities
  • Supporting the digital channels and marketing stakeholders with accurate reporting and influential analysis
  • Provide financial support for the digital channel and marketing business areas
  • Build and critically evaluate business cases for investment opportunities
  • Commercial analysis with recommendations to drive improved profitability
  • Ownership of key reporting and analysis models – streamlining and ensuring fit for purpose
  • Work with commercial teams on the annual budget and update periodic forecasts with the Digital and Marketing teams challenging assumptions, variances, and suggest areas for efficiencies and opportunities
  • Ownership of all digital channels and marketing accounts and reporting, analyse variances to budget / prior year / forecast and provide associated insights on performance
  • Deliver channel profitability analysis and forecasts
  • Line manage, engage and develop 1 direct report

WE KNOW WHAT WE’RE DOING… and we know exactly what experience we’re looking for!

  • Confidence to challenge senior business partners including Digital Channel Director and Chief Customer Officer
  • Commercial experience in FMCG/Retail preferred but not essential
  • Possess strong analytical skills and can demonstrate the ability to draw conclusions and make recommendations
  • Excellent communication skills and strong team player
  • Relevant accounting qualification 5+ years post qualified experience
  • Management Accounting experience
  • Commercial reporting experience – ability to push back and streamline
  • Strong, quick and accurate Excel skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities
