Clothing Online Assistant Merchandiser

In a nutshell

We have an exciting opportunity for an Online Merchandise Assistant to join our expanding online team. You will be responsible for merchandising product on our site to lead customers to relevant and in stock product to maximise conversion along the customer journey, making sure every click counts and enabling cross-selling opportunities. You will report into the Online Merchandiser for your category and will work closely with the trading teams, marketing and creative departments.

What I need to do

Merchandise & Trade the Site

  • Ensure all pages across the department are effectively merchandised to support the online range, including identifying best sellers and high/ low cover lines
  • Execute changes to the What’s New section of the site, category landing pages, site navigation and other designated areas
  • Execution of the online trading calendar
  • Manage online promotions as directed by the Online Merchandiser
  • Liaise with Trading Merchandising what products to merchandise online during markdown

Maintain Product Information

  • Review products prior to upload and conduct regular audits of the site to check all information is accurate
  • Set product classifications prior to upload and undertake spot checks once live to ensure product placement is logical to the customer and everything is correctly classified and merchandised.

Managing Performance

  • Prepare relevant analysis as required by the Online Merchandiser
  • Assist the Online Merchandiser in implementing all aspects of the department strategy to deliver sales and profit targets.
  • Regularly review performance of KPIs for your department and site analytics.  Implement action plans for any underperformances and to optimise customer journeys
  • Be a positive champion for the online customer and build a successful cross functional network

Optimising Processes

  • Continuously review and suggest improvements to site processes e.g. search engine performance, key word redirects, recommendations engine etc.


  • Maximise availability of online stock.  Effectively manage stock levels over product life to optimise availability, ensure sales targets are met while minimising online markdown.
  • Analyse stock at SKU level and request stock increases and decreases from Stock Allocators
  • Monitor stock levels for key promotional activities

  • Experience working in online merchandising
  • Strong Numerical skills
  • A wide understanding of the online retail market and how it is evolving to identify opportunities and challenges
  • Highly computer literate with proficient Excel experience
