Buyer – White Spirits & Fortified Wine

In a nutshell


Responsible for White Spirits, Fortified Wine and RTD
To execute the sourcing and selection strategy for all White Spirits, Fortified Wine and RTD (c.£330m) within the Food Commercial framework. To help deliver the category shared objectives through effective analysis, negotiation, supplier management and identification of most cost effective sourcing routes.

What I need to do


Major strategic and project work
• Fully integrate the Fortified Wine category into the existing spirits selling strategy, along with augmenting how Fortified Wine fits into the existing space shared with total spirits.
• To fully integrate supplier terms of Fortified wine into those that are applicable in Spirits, most notably in suppliers that supply both areas
• Lead the cost to serve from a commercial aspect across total spirits, including the migration of any financial benefits into COGs
• To be the buying lead for future legislation such as Minimum Unit Pricing and\or and resultant changes in Alcohol Duty.

Ongoing responsibilities for the buying area
• To formulate and implement the sourcing and selection strategy for all White Spirits, Fortified Wine and RTD
• To negotiate optimum product cost with suppliers through excellent branded supplier management and own label value chain analysis. Lead and own all supplier relationships.
• To identify most cost effective sourcing routes into the stores
• To implement pricing, promotional & ranging strategies
• To create performance targets for suppliers and regularly monitor supplier performance
• To know and understand the relevant retail market as well as understand the broader markets which may impact your buying area
• To understand your performance within the context of the relevant market
• To support the implementation of New Product Development
• To support the development and implementation of both category and supplier plans
• To build cross functional relationships to achieve the shared objectives
• To build and deliver Category Plan project work alongside your ‘BAU’
