Credit Risk Manager

We’re looking for enthusiastic individuals with significant experience in retail credit risk management and a background in financial services to join our team. You’ll work closely with our Head of Unsecured Credit Risk to deliver all aspects of credit risk for our credit card or personal loans portfolios achieving fair customer outcomes and business benefits.

 

You’ll:

 

  • develop, manage and deliver all aspects of credit risk for our personal loans or credit card portfolios
  • shape the loans/cards risk agenda, engaging and partnering with stakeholders in the business
  • manage the development, design, and continual improvement of the risk management strategy used in our decisioning systems, working with Credit Risk Systems and Infrastructure and outsourced partners to ensure appropriate implementation of strategies
  • utilise our data warehouse to develop, produce and evaluate statistical analysis that will help to meet the bank’s risk appetite
  • develop Risk Management analytical capability to enhance understanding of the Bank’s risk profile, providing insightful information, guidance and advice to influence business decisions
  • provide adequate Credit Risk Management input for Sainsbury’s Bank loans/cards initiatives, such as product development and pricing
  • in collaboration with the Credit Risk Provisioning and Forecasting team, Collections and Recoveries, Commercial and Finance teams, input to the bad debt forecasting process, including stress testing and scenario planning
  • ensure appropriate operational risk identification and control within the Loans/Cards Credit Risk function
  • attend Retail Credit Risk Committee when needed, persuasively presenting Credit Risk's papers relating to loans/cards credit risk strategies
  • continually challenge performance in the Credit Risk function, focussing on loans/cards, but also providing appropriate challenge cross function
  • develop and maintain a network of external contacts within the risk industry to ensure that we understand all the latest credit risk initiatives and regulatory change impacting credit risk
  • work with service providers, ensuring that Supplier Management Framework is adhered to and that services are delivered in line with SLA
  • ensure that fair customer outcomes are at the forefront of our credit risk strategies
  • in collaboration with the credit risk reporting team, ensure there is an effective suite of MI to deliver agreed credit risk performance, enabling the business to meet its financial targets
  • lead and manage a team of analysts, creating and agreeing stretching performance management objectives, providing feedback and coaching to ensure that they reach their full potential
  • collaborate and partner with outsourced areas to ensure that we shape their operational long term agenda for loans credit risk

You’ll bring:

 

  • significant experience in Retail Credit Risk Management
  • expert knowledge of modern risk management techniques used within the credit industry
  • experience in a relevant financial services environment with a good understanding of retail products and channels
  • excellent team player with a track record for motivating those around them to deliver results
  • solid core skills of creativity, innovation and initiative, comfortable with ambiguity
  • a good external network of contacts within the risk industry
  • an ability to communicate and negotiate successfully with colleagues at all levels and to build effective working relationships across and outside of the business
  • enthusiasm for change and an understanding of the project management cycle
  • highly PC literate with a good working knowledge of all Microsoft applications (Word/Excel especially). Experienced SAS practitioner.
  • excellent report writing and communication skills with the ability to present ideas persuasively
  • an ability to present and interpret management information for problem and solution identification
  • an ability to provide accurate information within tight timescales
  • an innovative, creative approach to problem solving, using initiative
  • knowledge of the financial environment, an awareness of developments in banking regulations

  • highly numerate with excellent analytical and problem solving skills and attention to detail.
