Click & Collect Groceries Delivery Manager (6 month secondment)

In a nutshell

Oversee the expansion of new and replaced Click & Collect Groceries points, ensuring we’re delivering a value-adding proposition that meets the needs of Colleagues and Customers. You’ll work with Property to ensure investments land as planned and in-budget.

What I need to do

  • Ensure the Click & Collect Groceries roll out programme lands as planned and within the £1m capital budget
  • With support from Online Finance prepare business case papers for capital sign-off, ensuring the returns meet required hurdles and aligns with the Click & Collect Groceries capex plan. Maintain a good understanding of what financial metrics (capex, labour, volumes) influences returns, and be able to evaluate options to maximise scheme returns
  • Ensure collection point designs are completed in a managed priority order by Feasibility, and manage the Property feasibility team to ensure we have sufficient approvals (SDG, Signage Plan) in-place. Agree start on site dates with Property Project Manager and the Store Manger to ensure the programme remains on-track. Manage the communication of delivery delays and potential site disruption considerations
  • Review collection point installations to ensure they are built to the correct standard, and manage the resolution of any identified snags. Take responsibility for ensuring the build and delivery standards meet the requirements of colleague and customers. You’ll review schemes on site and agree and action plans for any snags with the assigned Property Delivery Manager
  • Ensure the Click & Collect Groceries Investment Programme is clearly communicated and reported to necessary stakeholders (e.g. Online Operations, Implementation, ROMs, Store Managers)
  • Evaluate and agree the acceptable criteria for a “fulfil-from-room” format – balancing convenience for customer, our proposition and operational efficiency. This will involve collating customer and colleague feedback and stress-testing the parameters and making necessary recommendations
  • Oversee the trial of a new low cost canopy cover solution and evaluate the benefit it provides to the Click and Collect proposition. Working closely for Formats to agree the specification (ensuring it will work for colleague and customer), you’ll review the implementation and evaluate the benefit / implications in relation to C&C commercial viability
  • Manage the communications and engagement associated with any collection point closures. This will require ensuring ROM, ZOM and SM are all in agreement, and understand the commercial rationale of the decision and timings
  • Identify opportunities to step on the performance of identified under-performing locations. Work with Online operations (ZOM, AZOM, Store Manager) to address opportunity locations
  • Support the Senior Network Strategy Planner with a commercial review of the Grocery Click and Collect offer – ensuring our roll out strategy is value adding. Understand the operating model (and ability to flex), labour and customer needs will be key
  • Complete a periodic complication and submission of a labour return for fulfil-from-room collection locations
  • Get under the skin of weekly C&C performance and work with Analysis to establish emerging trends and themes. Concisely report performance to the Demand & Capacity Planning Manager – ensuring appropriate themes are identified
  • There is opportunity in this role to shape the future strategy of Grocery Click & Collect programme – ensuring we have a viable operating model, which delivers attractive returns for our business

How I will succeed

  • Deliver high quality Click & Collect Groceries investment programme – on budget, to spec and to a high quality
  • Recognised as go-to knowledge bank for Click & Collect Groceries
  • Ensure key stakeholders clearly understand the roll out programme and store are set-up for success at go-live

What I need to know

  • How to work effectively within a cross-divisional team – working internal stakeholder (Property, Finance, GOL) and our Store/ Field based colleagues (Retail, Implementation)
  • Good knowledge of excel, PowerPoint and MS Office tools
  • How to read, interpret and analyse performance data – largely in excel format. Know how to present and share performance learning in a concise and meaningful way
  • A good understanding of how online works in stores at an operational, organisational and cultural level, and use this to leverage opportunities to optimise the Click & Collect delivery programme
  • How to communicate effectively to multiple stakeholders – ranging from our Store colleagues to the Online Senior Leadership Team
  • Appreciation of the Property Delivery process from Feasibility (site design) to delivery (collection point install) and snagging (pre-go live sign off). Know how to read drawings to ensure what is planned delivers in the practical reality
  • How to manage and organise and roll out programme. Be able to communicate, manage and effect necessary changes whilst ensuring the programme goals aren’t compromised
  • Good knowledge of Financial metrics (operating costs, capex – plus their associated levers ) and how they inform and influence the P&L of an operation

What I need to show

  • You have an eye for the detail
  • You’ll be able to develop and prioritise the your workload effectively
  • A strong interest in grocery and online retail
  • That you’re a self-starter with drive and ambition
  • Experience working with Retail Operations
  • Ability to communicate with colleagues from different disciplines and work cross functionally

Resources available to me

  • Wider Online Property resource
  • Support from other Online functions (e.g. Analytics, Forecasting) where required

What decisions I can make
