Product Owner - Logistics

In a nutshell

You will have ownership and responsibility for a digital product or products that help our colleagues to delight customers, across Logistics. Bridging the technical and business worlds, you will work with colleagues across our businesses to deliver against your products’ roadmap.

You’ll be someone who loves to make things happen and gets excited about identifying and delivering simple solutions to complex problems, at pace. As a product owner at Sainsbury’s, you will be a key part of shaping the future of our organisation and the retail sector.

What I need to do

  • Launch new products and enhance existing products
  • Deliver against and support the vision, strategy and roadmap for your product
  • Delivery of the projects & sprints on your product’s roadmap
  • Work alongside architects, project managers and engineers to design solutions that meet the needs of our Logistics partners and our colleagues love.
  • Deliver against agreed benefits (functional and financial) for investments in your products
  • Deeply understand the needs of our Logistics partners and gather requirements
  • Provide digital product knowledge and insight for colleagues across our business
  • Support the execution of our Digital & Technology strategy

What I need to know

  • BA/BSc degree or equivalent practical experience
  • A good understanding of one or more of the major technology solutions used across the Logistics industry such as Warehouse Management Systems (e.g. Red Prairie/JDA, Manhattan), Transport Management Systems, Yard Management and Reporting.
  • Experience in the definition and delivery of technology solutions within the Logistics environment
  • An ability to engage with colleagues and customers confidently and communicate clearly & concisely.
  • Knowledge and experience of the retail and technology industries preferable
  • Good Microsoft Office skills preferable (incl. Excel modelling and analysis)

What I need to show

  • Good awareness of Logistics technology solutions available in the market and what these could offer Sainsbury’s.
  • Detailed knowledge of one or more of the major technology solutions used across the Logistics industry such as Warehouse Management Systems (e.g. Red Prairie/JDA, Manhattan), Transport Management Systems, Yard Management and Reporting.
  • Great communications skills with stakeholders at all levels
  • Analytical and methodical approach to problem solving

Resources available to me

  • You will have access to all the resources required to deliver projects as required (Waterfall or Agile) including: Project Managers, Technical Designers, Solution Architects, Vendor Supplier resource, Agile Scrum delivery teams and other D&T colleagues, together with access to broader resources across JS, and external sources.

What decisions I can make

  • Day-to-day project activity decisions for capital projects within you portfolio (typically up to c£1m, up to 1 yr projects)
  • Selection of project delivery methodology (Agile/Waterfall)
