Buyer (12 month FTC)

Our customers love Sainsbury’s because we help them to live well for less. As a Buyer, you’ll deliver the cost savings that make it all possible. With expert support from a Category Manager, you’ll develop, implement and deliver simple commodity plans.

It’s a role that will call on all of your commercial acumen, as well as your understanding of contracts and basic contract law. We’ll expect you to develop strong knowledge of the business requirement, with a sound understanding of what makes up an agreement - and what drives it.

When it comes to gaining agreement for your plans, you’ll present compelling decisions based on a full range of commercial factors. The senior managers you aim to influence will expect you to be ready with answers to challenging questions, and to have a set of alternative options in your back pocket. So you’ll be every bit as flexible as you are organised and prepared.

Once your plan has been signed off, it’s time to lead project teams to make it happen. You’ll agree everything from supplier selection and set-up, through to contract terms and business improvement plans. Crucially, you will negotiate favourable terms giving us (and our customers) the benefits of the best possible cost, quality and service.

So you’ll deliver real savings and valuable service improvements. And your impact won’t end there. As a key member of the Goods Not For Resale Procurement Team, you’ll support the development of bigger Category Plans.

So what will it take to succeed here? We’ll expect you to demonstrate knowledge of strategic sourcing and supplier/stakeholder management principles. A commercially astute and analytical thinker, you can get your head around cost make-up and pricing models. Retail experience would be a real advantage, too.

What really sets you apart is your way with people. Whether you’re leading a small team, influencing senior managers, or forging strong relationships with stakeholders, you always communicate clearly, fluently and persuasively.
