Engineering Shift Supervisor - Heavy Vehicle/PCV

An exciting new opportunity has become available to join the SPS technician team, where you will have the opportunity to work across a variety of vehicle types including electric, hydrogen and diesel vehicles, using cutting-edge diagnostic technology.
As an Engineering Shift Supervisor, you will lead the safe, efficient and reliable engineering shift operations within the VMU. This is a working supervisor position, combining hands-on engineering tasks with team leadership, coordination and quality assurance. This is a one-of-a-kind role where we’re dedicated to investing in your growth and development.
You will play a key role in ensuring vehicles meet our safety and performance standards, enabling us to deliver outstanding service for our customers every day.
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
Leadership & Safety
- Champion behavioural safety, promoting positive safety conversations and challenging unsafe behaviours.
- Deliver start-of-shift briefs, POWRA completion and Toolbox Talks.
- Ensure PPE and workplace housekeeping standards are consistently met.
- Ensure compliance with Health, Safety, Security, HR and Environmental policies.
- Support colleague development.
Operational Delivery
- Allocate and prioritise planned and unplanned work for shift technicians.
- Supervise and support technicians, providing hands-on assistance where required.
- Conduct periodic vehicle inspection audits and encourage proactive defect identification.
- Manage engineering status boards, wheel torque logs, VOR notices, process sheets and vehicle sign-off.
- Proactively monitor VOR status and escalate risks where required.
Essential Qualifications & Requirements
- Minimum NVQ level 3 or C&G equivalent or above in Heavy Vehicle Engineering (PSV preferred) with minimum 3 years post training experience and 2 years’ experience in a similar role
- Possession of a full driving licence
- IOSH Working Safely (training can be provided).
- At least 2 years in a similar role
- A pragmatic and proactive, can-do attitude to short notice workshop deadlines
- Flexible approach to working hours as we are a 24/7 business
Desirable
- Possession of IRTEC accreditation to PSV Inspection standard or above is a requirement but if accreditation is not held then training will be provided
- PCV Licence
- CITB or CCNSG certifications
- Level 3 Health & Safety Supervisory qualification
- Knowledge of the transport sector
