Fitter, Porth Depot

PCV/HGV Mechanic/Fitter

We need you!!

If you love being a vehicle technician but you’re thinking “I fancy a change”, “I want more variety” or “I want to work in a team”, then we may just have exactly what you’re looking for!

You’ve probably seen some of our 340 vehicles driving around South Wales, transporting our fantastic customers from A to B.

Those customers rely on our services to get them to work, to the high street, to hospitals, to days away and nights out – and as part of our engineering team you’ll be a key part in making sure our vehicles are in tip top condition to do just that. It’s a really important role within our depot, so we’ll make sure you’re as looked after as our vehicles are!

You’ll have the responsibility of maintaining and repairing our fleet. We have different body types, including solos, E200s and darts! Don’t worry if you’ve not worked on these vehicles before (or indeed buses) – we’ll train you on everything you need to know, and you’ll be supported by a great team of fellow Electricians, Mechanics,  Technicians, Storespeople, Administrators  and Engineering Managers who all pull together to do a brilliant job.

And it’s not all garage-based work. You could find yourself out and about dealing with vehicle issues on the road, so it won’t always be the same four walls you’re looking at!

Aside from the reward of helping to deliver an incredible experience to our customers, there’s plenty more we can offer:

  • Job security – we’ve been going since 1980, we turn over £1.3bn and we’re not planning on hanging our boots up anytime soon!
  • Free travel– for you and a household member on Stagecoach buses. That means on your days off (of which there are plenty!) you can be off shopping without worrying about parking the car, or heading off for a day in the city without paying a fortune in fuel!
  • A great regular income and great benefits – up to £13.61 per hour to be precise, plus a good pension scheme to look after you after you’ve hung up the spanner!
  • Promotions – perhaps you’re happy sticking as a Technician and that’s fine by us, but if you want to progress we’ll support you every step of the way. You will be given exposure to work which will develop your skills and experience to allow you to progress your career further. Many of our Stagecoach in South Wales Fleet Engineers started off as fitters – so that could very well be you in the not too distant future!

You don’t have to come from a bus background (but we wouldn’t be put off if you did either!), but you will need to have worked in a engineering technician field – truck, haulage, automotive, plant, rail, farm – if it moves, it’s good experience for working on buses!

So, if you fancy working in a great engineering team to make sure Susie gets to her job interview, Abdul gets to the hospital to pick up his wife, and Tom gets home from his night out okay, then please click the Apply Now button.
