FOB Assistant Buyer

It’s hard to imagine that the first Entertainer store only opened back in 1981. Today The Entertainer is the U.K.’s Largest Independent Toy Retailer. In the UK we operate over 170 UK stores stretched across England, Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland and the islands! As a business, we also own the Early Learning Centre and Totally Toys brands, both of which are represented through the UK and international partnerships including Matalan.   Outside of the UK we also manage a chain of toy stores in both Spain and Malta plus a growing number of Entertainer and Early Learning Centre franchise partnerships across the globe. We also own a brand toy supplier Addo Play – which supplies our stores and other retailers across the globe.

Working closely with our FOB buying and planning & allocation teams your job will be pivotal, providing commercial support for all aspects of the FOB product buying process including shipping. This will include following through on buying decisions and being a point of contact and referral for both the business and our suppliers.

Alongside a keen interest in the toy market, you will need a flexible approach and strong negotiation, communications and organisational skills. You will also have a natural ability to build effective working relationships enabling you to successfully liaise between internal teams, partners and wit our supply base. This job offers a great opportunity to fully understand the role of buying and gain valuable experience and knowledge to support possible buying responsibilities in the future.

Must hold a current UK driver license with a minimum of one year’s driving experience.

Some overseas travel is required.


  • To support the Buyers in the delivery of all relevant KPI’s – sales, profitability, and stock.
  • Actively finding new suppliers and ranges to present to the Buyer.
  • To be the initial point of contact for both the business and suppliers for buying related issues and requests.
  • To ensure that all relevant information for product creation is provided for the Buying Administration team to accurately set-up up products and raise purchase orders.
  • Provide input on ranging and credible display quantities.
  • Support the FOB Buying Administration Co-ordinator in managing the price changes and price establishment process.
  • To liaise with the Buying, Marketing, Retail Operations and Planning & Allocation teams to support the agreed trading plan.
  • To work closely with Marketing and the Promotions Manager to agree the catalogue content to be reviewed with the Director of Buying.
  • To support the creation of ranges for our wholesale partners in the UK.
  • To provide buying support and share relevant information with our International Franchise Partners.
  • Preparation of ad hoc data and business analysis as requested.                 

Skills & Experience

  1. Previous experience working on FOB or shipping goods from other countries is essential, Preferably with a seasonal trading retailer.
  2. Understanding of working in multiple currencies.
  3. Natural interest and curiosity in retail trading and the toy market.
  4. Proven track record in delivering high-quality administrative tasks.
  5. Excellent level of numeracy and PC literate with good Excel skills.
  6. Able to develop & manage relationships in a cross-functional
