  1. Job Purpose

To assist those we support to lead full, active and socially connected lives and support people to reach their personal outcomes.

Our teams take responsibility for making their own decisions about how they organise their work and how they decide on how they’re going to get their work done. This role therefore requires good interpersonal skills and an ability to set and meet targets, ability to ask for and receive accurate feedback and ensure that cover is managed by the team at all times (e.g. holidays, sickness, training).

 

  1. Main Responsibilities

Develop an understanding of person centred working and work from its value base at all times.

Contribute to ongoing use of ‘My Life, My support plan’ by keeping details updated and relevant. Contribute to the yearly review of ‘My Life, My Support Plan’.

Work flexibly and responsively to support the individual to meet their personal outcomes.

Provide person centred personal support and assistance for the person according to their ‘My Life My Support Plan’

Work in partnership with individuals supporting them to be full citizens in their community.

Contribute to setting individual (personal) and team targets in relation to a person’s outcomes. Meet these targets

Support the person to develop and sustain positive relationships with all those people (family/friends/professionals) that are important to them.

Contribute to efficient team working by taking a pro-active part in team meetings and discussions, including chairing and minute taking and taking on tasks as agreed (e.g. working out the team rota, Carista, family connector, on-call, setting and reviewing priorities, identifying and improving systems and processes, working on feedback from families and those we support.)

Take a pro-active part in the team by supporting colleagues, communicating well and helping to deal with issues as they arise.

Accountable to the person you support and those who advocate on their behalf

  • Ideally have Higher Education Certificate in Person Centred Approaches or SVQ level 2 in Care or equivalent or be committed to working towards this to ensure registration to SSSC standard
  • Driving licence desirable

  • Able to work autonomously

We are looking for two female* Personal Assistants to support a young gentleman as he transitions to his new home.

He says:

"I currently have a vacancy for X2 Female* Personal Assistant/Assistants to support me as I transitions to my new home. I am a young man with a condition known as Friedreichs ataxia which is a degenerative condition. I need to have people around me who are confident, have outgoing personalities, and are keen to get involved and encourage me to build on my independence. Being a confident driver is a must as I enjoy visiting Edinburgh/Glasgow and and hope to travel further afield in the future. I require individuals who can provide full flexibility for this post.

I have a variety interests which include football, politics (left wing/independence) and current affairs. I also want to build on my daily living skills with being in my new home when able and fit to do so - on certain days I can be very lethargic and unable to do so. I enjoy spending time with my family, socialising with friends, etc. It would be ideal for me to start doing other activities with my support hrs and the hope is to embrace what life has to offer me. I’m open to suggestions of what these new ventures can be. I require support with my personal care.

I am great fun to be around and meeting the outcomes that I hope to achieve with your support. An adaptable person to support me is desirable as my needs can vary day to day so I can plan my activities, events and dreams.

You will require good communication and social skills to work effectively with family and other members of a small team dependant on the service. We are looking for someone with a warm and friendly personality, who can work professionally and use their own initiative. Experience working with individuals with neurological conditions is desirable but not essential. A driving licence is essential for this post.
