Collision Investigator - Road Traffic Accidents

About The Role

We are seeking an experienced Collision Investigator to join our team of experts within the Engineering Investigations Team at TRL, specialising in the forensic investigation of incidents involving road traffic, the environment and road user behaviour. This role can be based in one of our offices in Berkshire, Bristol, Birmingham or Edinburgh, but you will be required to visit incident locations and carry out vehicle inspections across the UK - often at short notice - due to the unpredictable nature of the work. 

Key Duties / Responsibilities

The successful applicant will undertake in-depth investigations of collisions, producing reports for our wide variety of public and private clients including: police forces, public bodies, road authorities, insurers, private companies and , claimants and defendant solicitors in both Civil and Criminal proceedings.  Our Consultants are regularly required to give evidence in Court.  On the job training will be supplemented by occasional external courses.

Skills & Experience

To be considered you must have substantial experience working as an Expert Witness Consultant and hold a degree in an engineering / automotive discipline or similar technical/scientific subject.

The preferred candidate will also:

  • possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, and in particular to be able to explain technical information accurately and confidently to both technical and lay audiences;
  • possess the commitment, dedication and initiative to undertake complex investigations to tight timescales and the highest quality
  • have experience of presenting evidence in Court;
  • have experience in capturing and analysing electronic data from vehicles, including Event Data Recorders (EDRs);
  • have a strong desire to expand their expertise and the ability to work within an experienced and dedicated team based in several centres throughout the UK
  • Enjoy the prospect of working flexible hours throughout the UK - as each case dictates.

Qualifications

A degree (2:1 or above) in an Engineering / Automotive subject or a closely related discipline.  

Communication Requirements

Eligible candidates must be able to demonstrate fluency in both verbal and written English with polished presentation skills.
