Data Analyst - Infrastructure Asset Management

About The Role CIQMP

We have an opportunity for a Data Analyst to join the Asset Management team of Infrastructure’s Engineering and Science Group, with responsibility for analysing technical data and working with large and complex datasets to support effective decision making in the field of infrastructure asset management. The successful candidate will be part of a team which uses asset data for whole life cost and cost-benefit analyses for maintenance programme identification and development, performance reporting and maintenance budget analyses. You would be working from TRL’s head office in Wokingham, Berkshire, with occasional need to travel to client sites.  In addition, TRL installs and implements its asset management systems for a number of international clients, so there may be a requirement for occasional overseas travel as part of a project implementation team.

Key Duties / Responsibilities

  • Responsibility for analysing and updating a range of data sources – whether structured, unstructured or big data – relating to physical and economic aspects of infrastructure assets
  • Developing software tools primarily in VB.net to support effective decision making in relation to the construction, rehabilitation, maintenance, and economic performance of infrastructure assets.
  • Working closely with clients and colleagues to capture data analysis and reporting requirements, identify relevant data sources, and carry out software development and testing within our quality management framework to meet the clients’ needs.
  • Working to expand the capability and improve the performance of existing models.
  • Helping the wider Asset Management team to identify commercial opportunities through the analysis and exploitation of data.
  • Producing reports and presentations for clients and elevate the broader impact of findings (where appropriate) to other Groups / Divisions and TRL’s Academy.

Skills & Experience

Essential

  • Analysis and interpretation of large/complex datasets, including algorithm development, implementation and testing
  • Expertise in capturing and documenting user and functional requirements.
  • Strong analytical and organisational skills
  • The ability to learn and apply knowledge to new topics and areas of work
  • Expertise and experience in digital data management.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong presentation skills.
  • Broad understanding and previous experience of applying data analysis techniques.

Desirable

  • Previous experience within the civil engineering / asset management domain
  • Previous experience in a project lead role.
  • Knowledge of programming languages – especially VB.Net and C/C#
  • Broad understanding of Building Information Modelling (BIM)
  • Membership of a professional body and / or a higher degree or technical qualification.

Qualifications

A degree (2.1) or above in a science, computing or engineering discipline is essential.

Membership of a professional body and / or a higher degree or technical qualification would be advantageous.

Communication Requirements

  • Eligible candidates must be able to demonstrate fluency in both verbal and written English and with effective communication and presentation skills
