Accident Reconstruction Consultant - Technical Reviews - Part-Time

About The Role                                                       CIQHP

We are seeking an experienced Collision Investigator to join our team of experts within the Engineering Investigations Team at TRL, specialising in the forensic investigation of incidents involving road traffic, the environment and road user behaviour. The role is required for 20-25 hours per week and will focus primarily on reviewing technical reports

Key Duties / Responsibilities

The successful applicant will be primarily responsible for carrying out peer reviews of technical reports; Identifying and proposing any alternative scenarios, methods of investigation or research that might be applicable to a particular case - or could be used to validate the results. The successful applicant should be available and prepared to take on occasional legal casework as required by the needs of the business.

Investigations work carries potentially high liabilities for TRL if poor quality work is produced, meaning the Technical Review process and the ensuing discussions regarding changes or suggestions are of paramount importance to maintain TRLs reputation.

The successful applicant will be joining a multi-disciplinary team, and will enjoy a comprehensive period of training and ongoing development, to build their expertise alongside our team of Consultants, researchers and domain specialists.

Skills & Experience

Interested applicants must be able to demonstrate proven experience in collision investigation and a thorough understanding of the principles and physics behind this, together with experience of having peer reviewed technical reports.

The preferred candidate will also:

  • Have experience of preparing technical reports and presenting evidence in both Criminal and Civil Courts, with a thorough understanding of the role of an expert witness
  • Possess the commitment, dedication and initiative to undertake reviews of complex investigations to tight timescales and the highest quality
  • In the case of reports prepared for the Court, be able to identify whether it complies with the relevant rules (Criminal/Civil Procedure Rules in England/Wales, and their equivalents in other jurisdictions) e.g. overriding objective, burden of truth, layout, declarations
  • Be able to communicate any specific problem areas to the author of the report and discuss appropriate ways to resolve/explain them
  • Demonstrate an up to date knowledge of the breadth of research in this field, and communicate key developments to the team
  • Demonstrate a strong desire to expand their expertise and the ability to work within an experienced and dedicated team based in several centres throughout the UK, including Crowthorne and Edinburgh;
  • Have proficiency in using MS Word.

Qualifications

A degree in an engineering / automotive discipline or similar technical/scientific subject is preferred,
