Junior Technician - Vehicle Data Validation

About The Role                           CIQHP

TRL’s Vehicle Validation Team has an exciting technical opportunity for an individual to join our industry leading team responsible for assessing the performance of state-of-the-art road condition survey vehicles.  This is a varied role which would suit someone wishing to start a career in a technical and data driven environment.  The role requires working in all areas of a vehicle validation programme (equipment testing, data processing/analysis/validation and report writing). 

Key Duties / Responsibilities

The role will involve a number of different aspects including;

  • Helping to organise and undertake vehicle testing programmes. This will sometimes involve working away from the office at various UK test track facilities and on the road network.
  • Processing and analysing the data collected by the survey vehicles using bespoke and standard software packages.
  • Reporting on the resulting analysis and assessing compliance against detailed performance specifications.
  • Supporting the operation of TRL’s own survey vehicles and survey equipment
  • Ensuring Health & Safety and Environmental procedures are strictly followed.

Skills & Experience

The ideal candidate will be a well organised individual with a keen eye for detail.   Particular requirements include:

  • A flexible approach to working patterns and a willingness to occasionally work on test tracks and the road network.
  • A keen interest in technology (e.g. lasers, GPS, cameras) and data.
  • Experience using standard data analysis tools including Microsoft Excel (e.g. for analysing and presentation of data).
  • Excellent attention to detail and an interest in identifying and investigating anomalies in data sets.
  • Experience using standard reporting tools including Microsoft Word (e.g. for report writing and presentation of findings).
  • Good communication skills, as the role involves liaising with team members, clients and contractors.
  • A full driving licence will be required for site visits.

Qualifications

This is a diverse role that would suit a capable technician, ideally with a numeric, science, engineering or technology-based education.

Applicants must be able to demonstrate good written English and the confidence to communicate effectively with clients and team members at all levels of seniority.
