The Students’ Union is the focal point of campus life, and we have exciting opportunities for University of Warwick students to join our team!

What’s on offer:

Hourly Rate: £11.44 plus holiday pay calculated at 15.55% (equivalent of 35 days paid leave per year)

Duration: Fixed Term Contract starting in Term 3 2025 and until 4th July 2026 (subject to a 26-week probationary period) working throughout the next academic year (2025/2026)

Hours: You will be expected to work an average of 2 shifts a week (an average of 10 - 12 hours, however, we cannot guarantee these hours). You must be available to work 8 out of the 10 Wednesday nights (shifts usually 6:30pm - 2:15am) throughout terms 1 and term 2, and then usually a Friday or Saturday night (shifts usually 9:30pm - 2:15am)

Location: Warwick Students’ Union, Coventry.

What’s the role?
You will be working in The Copper Rooms which is our dedicated venue that delivers a range of exciting events, club nights and live music throughout the academic year.

You will be required to provide first aid when necessary to customers and staff alike, to ensure that Health & Safety requirements are met at all times, and to assist in the safe provision of service outlets whilst supporting the Stewarding Team and providing a customer friendly, professional face of the Union.

Who are you?
We are looking for someone with excellent customer service skills who is able to demonstrate initiative and good verbal communication whilst providing excellent First Aid in our busy venues and bars. You must possess a current First Aid qualification as detailed below:

You must hold:

  • A current First Aid at Work or Emergency First Aid at Work certificate

JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE: First Aid Steward

RESPONSIBLE TO: Venue Manager, Food and Beverage Managers, Head of Strategic Operations, Commercial Operations Director, Chief Executive, Board of Trustees    

RESPONSIBLE FOR: None         

MAIN PURPOSE FOR JOB: Provide First Aid cover at Union events, ensuring all legal requirements are met.

WORKS CLOSELY WITH: Operations Managers, Head Stewards, University departments, including sports centre, security.

MAIN DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES

  • To provide first aid cover at Union events.
  • To comply with legal requirements, maintaining a duty of care for members and staff.
  • To assist with the evacuation procedure when the fire alarm sounds.
  • To uphold the security policy of the Union as laid down.
  • Any other duties in line with the job description that may from time to time reasonably be required.
  • The above duties to be discharged in line with the letter and spirit of organisational policy on equality of opportunities, health and safety and continuous improvement programmes.
  • To commit to the Students’ Union environmental impact and promote environmental and ethical good practice.

EXPECTED STANDARDS

  • Compliance with the First Aid Team Guidelines provided by the Union.
  • Follow reporting procedures. Ensure first aid is provided the duty of care the Students’ Union is required to provide at all times. Deal with situations courteously and calmly.
  • First Aid Stewards will clearly display their working uniform at all times when working. This uniform must not be worn outside of work. It is the responsibility of the steward to ensure the cleanliness of their uniform.
  • First Aid Stewards are responsible to the Manager on duty when they are working.
  • Honesty is an essential requirement for all Stewards.
  • First Aid Stewards are answerable to Union regulations in the same way as anyone else, whether on or off duty.
  • To be carried out in line with the Students’ Union Environmental policy.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

ESSENTIAL SKILLS / KNOWLEDGE / QUALIFICATIONS

  • First aid at work (3 day course),issued by a training organisation approved by HSE; or
  • Emergency first aid at work (1 day course), issued by a training organisation approved by HSE or a recognised Awarding Body
