2 x Service Designer (FCSF143 & FCSF144)
Contract: Fixed term contract until 30 June 2028, working 35 hours per week (Arts Council also recognises the benefit of flexible working as a valued part of the way we work, and welcome applications from individuals who require flexibility)
Salary: £38,689 per annum Grade C, plus benefits including a final salary pension scheme, generous annual leave, and flexible and hybrid working.
Location: Manchester or Birmingham (The role will be based in Manchester or Birmingham; however, we are operating a hybrid way of working and support our staff to make use of remote working options when combined with regular on-site contact days with other members of the team, normally 1-2 days a week)
Arts Council England is transforming into a more user-centred, service-led organisation. As a Service Designer, you will play a key role in helping us understand, design and improve the services we provide to the creative and cultural sector.
You will work across teams to map how our services currently operate, identify where they fall short for users, and design improvements that make them simpler, more inclusive and more effective. This includes working across policy, operations, digital and data to shape end-to-end services that meet real user needs.
You will contribute to embedding service design thinking across the organisation, supporting teams to take a more user-centred, evidence-based approach to how services are designed and delivered.
Role Details
As a Service Designer, you will map and analyse existing services, identify friction points and opportunities for improvement, and support Service Owners to design end-to-end services that consider the full user journey.
You will work closely with user researchers, data teams, product managers, delivery managers and stakeholders to understand user needs, co-design improved services, facilitate workshops and create service design artefacts such as journey maps, service blueprints and system maps.
You will help shape services through discovery, alpha, beta and live phases, advocate for accessibility and inclusive design, and communicate complex service concepts clearly to influence decision-making.
About You
You will have experience applying service design methods to understand and improve services, mapping end-to-end journeys and identifying opportunities for improvement.
You will understand user-centred design principles, be comfortable working in multidisciplinary teams, and have strong facilitation and communication skills. You will be able to balance user needs with organisational priorities and constraints, and will have an awareness of accessibility and inclusive design principles.
Experience in the public sector, familiarity with Government Digital Service approaches, and knowledge of how digital, data and technology support service delivery would be beneficial.
