Manager – Security and Protection Advice

Contract: Fixed Term for 12 months, working 35 hours per week   

Salary: £32,615 per annum, plus benefits including a final salary pension scheme, generous annual leave, and flexible and hybrid working 

Location: Any of the following Arts Council offices in Birmingham, Brighton, Bristol, Cambridge, Leeds, Manchester or Newcastle.  

 

Arts Council England is seeking a manager – Security and Protection Advice to support National museums to lend widely and other museums and cultural organisations to safely hold, borrow and display works of art and other cultural items under the Government Indemnity Scheme and firearms legislation. The role will also maintain a strategic overview of the cultural sector’s emerging areas of risk, using this overview to work with partners to develop appropriate information, advice, guidance, training and other support.     

The Museums and Cultural Property team has a range of national responsibilities that support the strategic development of museums and works with the cultural sector in securing, sustaining, preserving, advocating for and enabling access to collections in support of Arts Council’s Strategy Let’s Create. Lending and borrowing enables these collections to be accessed and enjoyed by diverse audiences, creates opportunities for new research and interpretations, and promotes collections as a valuable public resource.   

You will have demonstrable knowledge and understanding of the operational practicalities of effective risk assessment and mitigation and quality assurance, most likely developed through experience of working for a cultural organisation and/or in the security/crime prevention sector. You will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to communicate in a confident and engaging manner. You will be highly organised, juggling multiple priorities and the resources of a small team to meet tight deadlines.    

This is an exciting time to join the team which is in a period of transition and where you will play a critical role in shaping the future of this area of the Arts Council’s work. Recognising that there is an amount of turbulence and uncertainty which is impacting on the museum sector, this role will work with stakeholders to review priorities and delivery mechanisms to ensure security and protection risks are effectively, efficiently and sustainably managed across the sector.  

Successful candidates must meet the security requirements before they can be appointed, and UK wide travel will be required. Where possible, we will accommodate flexible working arrangements to help you balance work and home life. We encourage individuals and teams to work flexibly, and we are working in a hybrid model with a combination of office and home working. We provide portable devices and technology so you can work and stay in touch while at home, travelling or otherwise out of the office.
