Contract: Fixed term until 31 March 2026, working 35 hours per week (Arts Council also recognises the benefit of flexible working as a valued part of the way we work, and welcome applications from individuals who require flexibility)

 

Salary: £51,457 (London) £49,045 (outside London) per annum plus benefits including a final salary pension scheme, generous annual leave, and flexible and hybrid working. 

 

Location: Any Arts Council office (The role can be based in any Arts Council office; however, we are operating a hybrid way of working and support our staff to make use of remote working options when combined with regular on-site contact days with other members of the team, normally 1-2 days a week) 

 

Introduction: As the national development agency for museums in England, we support museums, exhibitions and collections up and down the country. We use our schemes, our expertise, our networks and partnerships to develop and advocate for the sector and the value of public collections.

 

 

You will be responsible for informing policy, and overseeing implementation of, museum and cultural property team plan priorities, programmes and activities; you will be accountable for achieving associated goals and outcomes. 

You will provide leadership, strategic advice and guidance for the Museums & Cultural Property team, the Director, wider Arts Council and external stakeholders.  

You will advocate for Arts Council’s museums and cultural property schemes to embed an understanding of our work and maximise support for the sector. 

You will ensure accurate insight and intelligence from museums, and the art trade is analysed and shared to inform the development of our work.  

 

  • Accountable for overseeing the management of museum development activities and policy input for the Designation and Accreditation Schemes
  • Managing and communicating risks for the programmes and any related projects. 
  • Reporting against team, departmental and corporate plans and risk registers. 
  • Responsible for the strategic development of museum sector-facing programmes and products, working closely with colleagues in the Investment Centre and Area and external stakeholders to align with Let’s Create!
  • Working across a distributed team and with colleagues across Arts Council.
  • Providing guidance on museum policy, strategy and operation for the Museums and Cultural Property team, the wider Arts Council and external stakeholders.
  • Maintaining strong relationships with key sector organisations, including identified Arts Council-funded Investment Principles Support Organisations (IPSOs). 
  • Ensuring availability of relevant data to inform Arts Council policy and programme development, ensuring this is appropriately integrated with Arts Council’s data strategy.
  • Working with Arts Council’s research team to commission and produce industry insights to inform the development of Museums and Cultural Property activity.
  • Contributing to the organisation’s commitment to diversity and its implications for the arts and culture, promoting an inclusive approach in all aspects of the post’s objectives and activities.
  • Working flexibly as a Senior Manager within the Museums and Cultural Property team, contributing proactively across the range of our responsibilities and acting as an internal and external advocate for the work of the team to ensure effective integration and alignment with Arts Council’s strategy.
