Working Hours: 37½ hours per week working 5 days out of 7 on a rota (7½ hours per day)

Commencement: 1st August 2026

Salary: £23,875.00 per annum

Pension Scheme: Support Staff

Holiday: 30 days plus bank holidays (adjusted pro rata to reflect part year working). As this role is term time, holiday is paid within annual salary and is to be taken in Canford School holidays only

Team Leader (Catering)

Overall purpose

The Team Leaders primary role is to remain operationally focussed for all ‘core’ and internal commitments. They will also support with any external commitments where required.

Team Leaders must lead their teams to ensure high standards are upheld and maintained throughout service. This will require effective and clear communication, monitoring and a proactive hands-on approach.

In the absence of a Manager, the Team Leaders must liaise with the chefs and take responsibility for the daily requirements of the Department.

Duties

  • To be operationally focussed ensuring all aspects of Front of House commitments and standards are overseen and delivered to exemplary standard
  • Liaise with their line management regarding all hospitality and menu requirements. Ensure shift/teams are briefed
  • Liaise with team members to ensure the daily tasks are assigned, ensuring staffing is sufficient to cover all shift commitments
  • Positive and enthusiastic approach in leading the team, driving a positive and “can do” attitude in the department.
  • Ability to work closely with all colleagues to achieve the highest aims of the department. Taking corrective action to resolve disputes, productivity issues and maintaining standards.
  • Professional approach to appearance and engagement into the school and department’s ethos and policies.
  • To supervise timekeeping with all team members, to ensure accurate timekeeping of shifts are monitored and recorded correctly.
  • To be aware and competent on relevant IT and systems.
  • Attend any required meetings
  • To carry out daily hazard spotting. Ensure team members are operating to Departmental Food Safety and Health & Safety procedures.
  • Maintain cleanliness of all catering areas and supervising the General Assistant team duties., liaising closely with the chefs on kitchen needs.
  • Assist with the preparation of all due diligence paperwork and submit as requested, outlining any concerns to your Line Management
  • Report any items of machinery malfunctioning or operating inconsistently immediately to your Line Management
  • Assist in supporting any training required for team members
  • Carry out lock up procedure in the evenings and weekends
  • Be flexible in the working environment as some shifts may require you to work outside of the described hours and on site through the school.
  • Be flexible in carrying out any other reasonable jobs assigned by the management team

Knowledge/Experience

  • Good numeracy and literacy skills (D)
  • Basic Food Hygiene Certificate (E)
  • NVQ in hospitality or equivalent (D)
  • Previous experience in a similar environment (E)
  • Strong communication and organisational skills (E)
  • Excellent attention to detail (E)
  • Ability to direct team and issue instruction (E)
