Working Hours: 0800hrs to 1800hrs Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday

Commencement: As soon as possible

Salary: £13,713 per annum (based on FTE £24,190)

Holiday: 25 days plus bank holidays (adjusted pro rata to reflect part year working). As this role is term time, holiday is paid within annual salary and is to be taken in Canford School holidays only

Health Care Assistant - 6 Month Fixed Term Contract

Overall Purpose

To assist and support the Senior Nurse and her team to ensure that a high standard of nursing care is provided for boarding pupils at all times.  As well as maintaining the professional standards, a friendly and caring environment is also extremely important

Duties

  • Food ordering and monitoring stock of food.
  • Ensure adequate laundry stocks are kept in the Health Centre, liaise with Housekeeping as required.
  • Change beds as required and dispose of dirty laundry in the appropriate manner.
  • To communicate with house staff (within the bounds of confidentiality) where necessary.
  • Assist pupils with basic hygiene needs and pastoral requirements.
  • Making medical appointments for pupils and arranging transport.
  • Assess pupil’s dietary requirements, ensuring that they have an adequate dietary and fluid intake.
  • To report to the qualified nurse any observations made.
  • Give appropriate over the counter medication as requested by the nurse on duty. Document as appropriate
  • Observe pupils’ for any signs of deterioration and report concerns to the nurse on duty.
  • To assist with maintaining the cleanliness and tidiness of all clinical areas.
  • To assist in the collection of pathology specimens.
  • To answer the telephone during the day and take accurate telephone messages for referral to the nurse on duty.
  • Basic administration and filing as required by the nursing staff.
  • Assist with the maintenance of the stock and testing of medical equipment as required
  • Collection of medication from GP Surgery and local Pharmacy as required.
  • Liaising with outside companies

Knowledge / Experience

  • First Aid Training (Current Certificate) (E)
  • Good Standard of Education (E)
  • Experience in GP practice or educational establishment (D)
  • An understanding of Child Protection procedures (E) 
  • Good administrative skills (E)
  • Excellent organisational skills (E)
  • Good team player and ability to work independently (E)
  • Excellent time management skills (E)
  • A friendly, caring and approachable manner, with the ability to communicate with pupils, colleagues and external bodies as required (E)
  • Trustworthy and able to maintain confidentiality (E)
  • Excellent communication skills (both written and oral) (E)
  • Willing to undergo further training as required by the position (E)
  • Flexible and available at short notice (E)
  • Full Driving Licence (E)
