Role overview:

We are looking for a dynamic, highly motivated, experience candidate to lead the Corporate & Private Sector New Business Team of Business Development Managers. Reporting directly to Corporate & Private Sector Sales Director, in this senior management position the successful candidate will be responsible for delivering at pace significant grown in new business and will be expected to work with existing Corporate, Mid Market, and Regional teams and the bid management team to create and manage an expert mapping process to identify and target the key appropriate opportunities.

The role requires a minimum of 7 years’ experience in the private / corporate sector and applicants must be able to demonstrate successfully negotiating contracts at executive level. Ideally having worked in the business supplies industry or business services sector and it is essential they can demonstrate an extensive network of contracts across all business sectors.

The successful candidate will have a robust history managing a highly motivated team and the sales cycle success including, but not limited to; pre tender engagement, guiding and influencing customer tender specifications, guiding customer buying decisions, tender input, pricing and competitor knowledge and a high conversion rate

Key tasks

  • Manage, motivate, and mentor a team of Business Development Managers
  • Identify the addressable market for new business and work with the Banner Corporate & Private Sector senior leadership team to formulate the new business strategy
  • Achievement of agreed new business team revenue target, which will be implemented and trade at the forecasted sales and margin
  • Creation of a strong convertible pipeline across Corporate & Private Sector
  • Creation of opportunity mapping across Corporate & Private Sector
  • Develop and forge new relationships with potential customers
  • Pre-tender engagement with identified target opportunities
  • Input and be fully engaged throughout the tender stage with key themes, differentiators, competitor strengths and pricing
  • Accurate and timely sales forecasting and pipeline management
  • Extensive use of CRM ensuring all activities, contacts and opportunities are recorded, tracked and monitored accurately

Knowledge, skills and experience

  • Experience of selling business services solutions, business supplies and additional product categories into Corporate & Private Sector customers (minimum track record of 7 years experience)
  • Integrity, honesty and a proven desire to be the best in class in our industry when representing Banner, to our customer base and internally
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Outstanding presentation skills
  • Proven negotiating and interpersonal skills to facilitate key internal and customer stakeholder communications
  • A self-starter who is willing to tackle new challenges bringing a positive ‘can-do’ attitude.
  • Strong organisational skills and a ‘completer-finisher’.
  • Highly developed relationship building skills are required, as is the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels
  • Ability to be proactive and work alone as well as being a team player as part of cross functional groups
  • Numerate, analytical and ability to digest data sets and draw conclusions from findings.
  • Ability to project-manage tasks to completion.
  • IT literate across Microsoft with strong experience of CRM
  • Full clean driving licence is required as travel will be extensive with overnight stays


  • Reporting to the Corporate & Private Sector Sales Director with interaction with other Channel Heads, Finance, IT, Operations, Implementation, and other key stakeholders
  • Customer facing role with regular meetings, calls and written communications

KPI’s and performance measures

  • Achievement of winning and tracking the sales and accompanying GP of new business sales versus target
  • Creation and maintaining of a robust convertible pipeline to support each Corporate & Private Sector vertical
  • Creation and management of opportunity mapping process
