A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a Transport Manager to join our Normanton based Truline Logistics team. You will be responsible for managing the transport operation from this site with support from the on-site management team to ensure the smooth running of the transport function in line with legal requirements and Company policies and procedures.
This will entail managing and organising the day to day direct activities of the transport function at the location, relating to trunking to various hubs, despatching local routes, routing and tracking vehicles in a cost effective, safe and efficient manner ensuring customers receive optimum quality service. Striving for continuous improvement in service levels will be a key requirement.
In addition, the role will include ensuring all vehicles are maintained in line with legal requirements, drivers are managed to work within driver’s hours and working time regulations, using the company recognised processes to manage full compliance.
Other duties will include making sure health and safety obligations are met, providing a legal and safe working environment for all employees that consistently exceed quality standards required.
As a Transport Manager, you will also be responsible for personnel, monitoring their progress and being their first point of contact should a problem arise making communication skills vital. These communication skills are also vital in the development of customer relationships, managing questions and complaints calmly and decisively. There will also be responsibility for coaching, development and succession planning of the transport team.
You must be prepared to maintain the standards expected by the company. A good overall knowledge of the running of the hub is essential, as is the ability to prioritise tasks, make decisions and remain calm under pressure.
The successful candidate will have a strong business knowledge within a logistics environment, be experienced in organising vehicle maintenance schedules and have a good understanding of transport and network planning, gained in a multi-drop environment. A national or international CPC is essential and a Transport Operator Awareness is desirable along with other Transport qualifications such as NVQ, CPC and Class 1 licence.
We are looking for a candidate with a flexible attitude to working hours and willing to work additional hours where necessary. Additionally, the candidate must be physically fit as all tasks will require a degree of walking, standing, lifting or stretching. Some heavy lifting may be involved. Good communication skills and basic numeracy and literacy are essential as are high levels of common sense, integrity and honesty.
