Assistant Accountant
- Base: Chapman House, (BD11 1DR) with hybrid working
- Areas Covered: National
- Hours: Full time – 35 Hours per week
- Salary: £32,000
- Reporting to: Transaction Team Manager

We’re looking for a proactive Assistant Accountant to join our friendly Finance team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone studying towards AAT, working in a transactional finance role, or a finance graduate with accounting experience who wants to develop their career in a supportive, values driven organisation.
This role will particularly suit someone who is curious, motivated, and eager to broaden their finance knowledge across different areas of the business. We’ll also support your professional development and further study, helping you progress in your finance career.
About Us
People come to work for Habinteg because they believe in what matters to us. Inclusion drives all that we do, be that the services we offer to tenants, the environments we create or the homes we deliver. One in four people in this country are disabled but most homes are designed to exclude them. We believe in designing homes and creating neighbourhoods that everyone can share and enjoy. We have 3300 homes across the country from Tyneside to Cornwall. We provide expert training and consultancy through our Centre for Accessible Environments (CAE) in-house team.
About the Role
As an Assistant Accountant, you’ll play a key role in supporting our Finance team with accurate financial records, reconciliations, and reporting. You’ll gain hands on experience across ledgers, budgeting, and compliance, while supporting wider housing and property finance activities.
This is a varied and rewarding role where you’ll work closely with colleagues across the organisation building strong working relationships and helping to maintain robust financial control. You’ll also provide timely, accurate information to support decision making and continuous improvement.
About You
You might already be working in a transactions team and looking for your next step, or be AAT qualified, studying towards it, or a finance graduate with around 1–2 years’ experience in an accounting role. Curious and motivated, you’re keen to develop new skills and broaden your understanding of finance in a dynamic housing organisation.
With strong Excel and numeracy skills, great attention to detail, and an organised approach, you’ll thrive in a busy team environment. Most importantly, you’ll bring a proactive attitude, integrity, and a passion for learning. In return, we’ll support you with further study and professional development to help you grow your finance career.
Finally, make sure to read all about us. If you’re looking to work for a company that makes a difference to society, we might just be the place for you.
