Tool Room Machinist | Nights

Howdens is currently seeking an experienced Tool Room Machinist to join our team at our manufacturing site in Howden, East Yorkshire. This is a great opportunity to play a key role in the service, repair, and manufacture of in-house tooling, supporting our production operations with precision and expertise. If you have a background as an operator or a CNC Machinist with tooling knowledge, we are keen to hear from you.

Shift | 4.30pm to 3am Monday to Wednesday, 4:30pm to 2:30am Thursday.

Salary | £49,263.24 per annum + Shift Allowance £4708.08 Per annum

What you’ll be doing:

As a Tool Room machinist, your main responsibilities will include:

  • Manufacturing parts and tooling on CNC lathes and Milling machines
  • Assembling components and interpreting technical working drawings accurately.
  • Recording production data with precision and maintaining high standards of workmanship.
  • Conducting detailed quality checks aligned with our quality control processes.
  • Modifying tools and making adjustments as requested by the Tool Room Manager.
  • Performing machine safety checks before use and contributing to a safe, clean working environment.

What do you need to qualify for the Tool Room Machinist:

We’re seeking someone who brings hands-on experience and a proactive approach. Ideally, you’ll have:

  • A background in machine operation within a fast-paced manufacturing or engineering environment.
  • Time-served experience working in an engineering workshop.
  • Strong understanding of CNC control systems (Fanuc and Heidenhain advantageous but not required).
  • Experience with EDM machines for sharpening PCD tooling (preferred, but not essential).
  • Working knowledge of CNC lathes, milling machines, and cylindrical grinding processes (advantageous, but not required).
  • The ability to read and work from technical drawings.
  • A track record of meeting tight deadlines and maintaining performance under pressure.
  • A continuous improvement mindset and the ability to contribute to tooling system development.
  • Strong IT and communication skills.
  • A collaborative attitude and the ability to build positive relationships across departments.
