Project Engineer

Howdens is looking for an experienced and talented Project Engineer to join our Central Engineering Department. As part of this dynamic team, you'll be responsible for the appropriation, specification, design, and scope of a diverse range of capital projects, including capability increase & MOB Projects across our entire group. You will ensure all projects comply with statutory requirements and are delivered on time, within budget, and to agreed milestones – including new equipment installations and EOEL/property replacements.

Reporting to the Head of Manufacturing Engineering, you will manage the entire lifecycle of onsite project requirements from inception, design, installation, testing and completion. You will be a highly motivated technical engineer with strong project management experience, excellent organisation skill and the ability to drive projects and engineers forward.

What will you be doing as a Project Engineer:

  • Lead and manage manufacturing projects from initiation to completion, ensuring not only compliance with safety, health, and environmental legislation, but also fostering a culture of safety and responsibility.
  • Oversee project budgeting and timeline adherence and ensure all milestones, including product launch dates, are met.
  • Supervise multidisciplinary teams, including maintenance staff and external contractors, ensuring compliance with Howden's standards and legal regulations.
  • Calculate and compare costs for required goods or services to achieve maximum value for money.
  • Plan for future development in line with strategic business objectives.
  • Conduct cost analyses for goods and services to ensure optimal value for money.
  • Collaborate with cross-site teams, lead project meetings, and develop mitigation plans as needed.

What do you need to qualify for the Project Engineer:

  • A degree or equivalent experience in an Automated Engineering environment.
  • Experience in automated manufacturing. 
  • SMSTS or IOSH with a CDM Background is required.
  • Knowledge of European Machinery Safety Standards and NEBOSH qualification (or willingness to attain).
  • Experience in designing and delivering auxiliary services to enable the safe and compliant running of manufacturing processes, such as, service distribution systems – Electrical, data, compressed air and LEV system services.
  • Proven ability to lead teams, manage budgets, and drive continuous improvement.
  • Strong decision maker who has a successful track record in Engineering and Project Management for a large organisation.
  • Track record of driving continuous improvement.
  • People Management and Relationship Skills, including Leadership, Cultural and Organisational Awareness.
  • Organisation and Strong Decision-Making Skills.
