Electrical Engineer - Facilities

Howdens is recruiting a CompEx certified Electrical Engineer to support facilities at our Runcorn manufacturing site. This is a key role in ensuring that site facilities, electrical systems and associated services operate safely, efficiently and in full compliance. You will combine hands‑on electrical engineering with facilities maintenance, contractor coordination and compliance, contributing to a safety‑focused, high‑performing manufacturing environment.

Location: Runcorn

Shift Pattern: Monday to Friday (day shifts), with flexibility to work occasional weekends as required.

Band A: £51,085.84 per annum

Reporting to: Chris Jones, Facilities Manager  

What will you be doing as an Electrical Engineer - Facilities:

  • Deliver planned, preventative and reactive electrical maintenance to support site services, equipment and utilities.
  • Diagnose electrical faults and support root‑cause analysis activities to prevent repeat failures.
  • Support site compliance activities, including inspections, documentation control and remedial actions
  • Support the ongoing maintenance of site facilities, including lighting, power distribution, access systems, water systems and building fabric
  • Monitor and maintain facilities systems to ensure compliance with statutory requirements and internal standards
  • Manage contractor management processes, including permits to work, audits, workplace inspections and coordination of external service providers
  • Assist with facilities projects, upgrades and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Work closely with maintenance, production and engineering teams to support safe and reliable site operations

What Do You Need to Qualify for the Electrical Engineer - Facilities Role:

  • NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering or equivalent industrial experience
  • CompEx Certified
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and associated packages
  • Experience and knowledge of computerised maintenance management systems
  • Solid knowledge of electrical maintenance for plant and site utilities
  • Experience in permit writing and contractor management
  • Strong understanding of safe systems of work, risk assessments, and permit to work processes
