Occupational Health Nurse

We are looking for an experienced part-time occupational health nurse to join our in-house OH service here at Howden, East Yorkshire. We are seeking a dynamic and highly motivated nurse to deliver high standards of practice and support efforts towards achieving SEQOHS accreditation.

The post holder will be responsible for ensuring the delivery of first-class service, leading and delivering health surveillance, fitness for work health screening and health promotion to employees, and managing your caseload as appropriate.

We are ideally looking for someone part-time who is happy to work four days a week and will include some evening work. The successful applicant will require a full driving licence.

What will I be doing as an Occupational Health Nurse?

  • Work autonomously to deliver surveillance and OH nursing activities across the operational service.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of Occupational Health & Wellbeing policies and procedures and assists the OHA in the development of health promotion and other initiatives and documentation, acting as a professional role model to encourage a preventative approach to health problems and well-being of all employees.
  • Makes clinical decisions and judgements regarding staff cases, e.g referral to OH Physician, Physio, etc
  • Conduct pre-employment health screenings for all potential new employees.
  • Works with Health and Safety to identify, mediate and address risks to staff, planning and delivering any actions as a result of intelligence
  • Works with OH admin to ensure the availability of clinics meets service needs.
  • Oversees the undertaking of health surveillance programmes to agreed protocols and assists in assessing and analysing the results to advise employees and managers on the promotion of the workforce's physical and mental health and wellbeing.
  • Responsible for health surveillance equipment, including calibration and storage.
  • Undertakes both standard and bespoke workplace assessments, such as drug/alcohol testing, manual handling, and assessment of the fitness of individuals returning to work after illness/injury in addition to workplace surveys, e.g., responding to requests from managers to assess workforce health and wellbeing.

What do I need to qualify for this role?

  • Registered General Nurse (RGN)
  • Evidence of post-qualification training/continuous professional development relevant to specialist role, including post-graduate courses, short courses in relevant specialism or extended areas of practice.
  • Clinical skills, preferably including experience in Vision screening, Spirometry, Audiometry tests, HAV’s, Cardiovascular health, increasing knowledge and associated potential risks via health promotion.
  • Experience working in an OH environment or similar setting (such as Primary Care)
  • Communication skills, both written and verbal, of a level appropriate to enable the effective performance of the main tasks; including the submission of written reports within area of expertise.
  • IT literate, including word processing, using OH databases, and producing basic reports.
