The Opportunity with NRC

We are seeking an Associate Director, Maintenance & Engineering [Track] professional to join our team in Boston, Massachusetts

Working as part of the asset management & maintenance team, you will provide specialist Track asset maintenance and engineering advice to transit and railroad agencies. Additionally, you will have sufficient understanding of the wider railway system which enables you to communicate effectively, and with confidence about industry best practices.  

You will be able to demonstrate an ability to analyse complex asset and organizational problems, and create client focused solutions, reflective of their specific needs by using your depth of industry experience.  

Knowledge of managing assets throughout their full lifecycle and being able to demonstrate an ability to apply tools and techniques which enable asset life to be maximised whilst maintaining appropriate levels of safe asset performance is required.  

Key Accountabilities

  • Development and on-going management of strong client relationships.
  • Act as subject matter expert for the track asset discipline, providing input into the diagnosis of root cause failure modes and the provision of solutions that are appropriate for the relevant transit/railroad agency. 
  • Provision of support and guidance to all engineering asset disciplines, as required, internally and with clients. 
  • Act as a professional leader, providing technical and non-technical mentorship to others which supports personal and professional development. 
  • Provision of asset management lifecycle advice, reflective of recognized industry best practices which are tailored to meet the relevant transit/railroad agencies assets performance requirements. 
  • Support clients with analysis of the reliability and performance of their assets and participate in the development of immediate and long-term improvement initiatives. 
  • Support clients with the development of asset management plans, including all maintenance, renewal and investment activity, and development and management of the associated prioritised capital investment work bank. Provide support that can enable clients to communicate the implications if work is not undertaken in the recommended timeframe.
  • Provide client support to identify technical and business process improvements and innovation, developing business cases and Investment Papers where required.
  • Document project templates and other project related documents including risk registers, project quality plans, scope documents, deliverable trackers, and invoices.  
  • Development of reports, standards, and procedures, reflective of specific client needs. 
  • Support NRC’s technical briefing process, to enable NRC employees to remain up to date with local and international best practice. 

Job Skills, Experience & Qualifications

Essential

  • Membership of a recognised professional body i.e., PWI, IAM, ICE, IMechE.
  • Chartered Engineer registered with Engineering Council or equivalent
  • A detailed understanding of maintenance practices for track assets.
  • Broad and extensive experience of managing an asset through the entirety of its lifecycle. 
  • Demonstratable experience of managing and influencing railway system performance. 
  • A sound knowledge of technical, safety and performance standards relating to track engineering.
  • Proven ability to communicate with stakeholders at all levels of a business – ballast to boardroom. 
  • An understanding of safety management systems and risk assessment techniques. 
  • Experience of undertaking engineering assurance activities, including competence assessment. 
  • Knowledge of, and working experience with, Enterprise Asset Management Systems (EAMS) i.e., Ellipse, Trapeze, Maximo. 

Desirable

  • Professional Engineer qualification (desirable)
  • Formal Accident / Incident investigation experience.
  • Experience of using LEAN problem-solving techniques.
  • Knowledge of ISO 55001 series.
