About the opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Construction Manager, preferably with expertise in European Train Control Systems (ETCS) to join our growing Sydney team, supporting the transformative Digital Systems Program (DSP) with Transport for NSW (TfNSW).

In this senior role, you will support the Trackside Integrated Delivery Team by providing specialist guidance throughout the construction phase of the program. You will work closely with both the engineering and project management functions and act as the primary point of contact for all construction related activities, including installation methodology. A key part of the role is maintaining a direct interface with the Sydney Trains Asset Management teams to ensure the efficient and effective delivery of operational safety and train service outcomes for the client.

Key Accountabilities

  • Contribute to the Trackside Integrated Delivery Team to deliver the Digital Systems System Integrator Program in line with TfNSW requirements.
  • Work with the Project Manager and Technical Manager to set construction priorities and maintain focus on delivery and high‑risk areas.
  • Provide construction guidance and technical input to ensure effective integration of Trackside works with other sub‑systems.
  • Support due‑diligence reviews of supplier submissions, ensuring compliance with legislation, design requirements, and relevant standards.
  • Advise on construction methodology for implementing Trackside systems to support ETCS Level 2, working closely with TfNSW and Sydney Trains teams.
  • Undertake site and safety inspections to ensure works comply with design, standards, and approved construction methodology (always under approved protection and Safeworking Rules).
  • Assist the Technical Manager in ensuring Trackside deliverables are completed to plan and required quality standards.
  • Provide construction expertise to support operational specifications, policies, and procedures for safe and efficient delivery.
  • Foster collaborative, safety‑focused working relationships with the client and key stakeholders.
  • Support preparation of documentation for gate reviews in line with the Digital Systems Assurance Plan.
  • Assist the Testing Team by reviewing testing procedures and methodologies (e.g., inspection test plans).

About You

Essential Experience & Qualifications

  • Strong background in construction management on signalling and infrastructure projects.
  • Proven experience delivering rail projects to successful completion on time.
  • Proven experience working in the Sydney Trains network
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail when engaging with multidisciplinary stakeholders and capturing requirements.
  • Well-developed report writing skills.
  • Ability to prioritise work and deliver to tight deadlines.

Desirable

  • Experience working with trackside ETCS systems on railway signalling projects
  • Broader experience with ETCS
  • Membership of a relevant professional body
  • Experience supporting the development and entry‑into‑service phases of new rail infrastructure
  • Knowledge or experience of the Australian rail industry
  • Chartered Engineer or Incorporated Engineer working towards Chartered status
