Junior Consultant

Network Rail Consulting (NRC) is the international consultancy arm of Network Rail. Network Rail owns, operates and develops Britain’s mainline railway infrastructure. NRC has been operating in Australia since 2013 and provides consultancy services to railway owners and operators across Australia. 

Given our continuing success in winning new business we are expanding our Melbourne team and seeking to appoint a Junior Consultant. The opportunity will be available initially until October 2020 with scope to extend beyond that date.

Your role:

Contribute to the development and implementation of the Melbourne network development schemes and capacity improvement across Victoria to meet the long-term needs of Rail Projects Victoria (RPV), its users, funders and stakeholders.

Key Accountabilities: 

  • Assist in the preparation of functional requirements and high-level technical requirements for Rail Projects Victoria (RPV) projects
  • Create and maintain controlled document content in consultation with the business, SMEs and authors and in-line with Rail Governance processes
  • Assist in the development of Operations and maintenance concepts within a standards framework
  • Liaise and support the development of operational modelling
  • Support the development of Operational Maintenance Strategy, tools and techniques for the program
  • Monitor progress across RPV and challenging progress/status assumption
  • Manage and co-ordinate reporting and storage of key project documentation
  • Support schedule audits (at initiative and program level) to ensure Operational Maintenance items are adequately and appropriately covered and highlighted.
  • Participate in and contribute to governance meetings, discussions and workshops

What you will bring to the Role;

Essential

  • 2 years Rail experience
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of the rail industry
  • Excellent report writing skills
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Strong work ethic and ability to think critically
  • Strong commercial and financial awareness
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office

 Desirable

  • Degree holder or of graduate calibre intellect.
  • Experience of project and fund management
  • Experience of working within Passenger and Freight Train Operating Companies
  • Experience of strategic/business planning
