Finance Assistant

Network Rail Consulting [NRC] is the international consultancy arm of Network Rail. Network Rail owns, operates and develops Britain’s mainline railway infrastructure.

NRC are seeking a proactive, adaptable and highly organised individual to join our Finance team as a Finance Assistant for a 12-month Maternity Cover. The position is very broad and would suit a self-starter with excellent communication skills. This role provides great exposure to a wide range of finance duties, including international experience, alongside building relationships with various internal and external stakeholders. We are based near London Waterloo station and have flexibility in office working arrangements.

The role:

The Finance Assistant takes ownership of the day-to-day running of the Accounts Payable administrative process, banking / cash allocations, as well as maintaining service level agreements within Network Rail Consulting Finance in accordance with statutory, regulatory, contractual, customs & excise and group policy and regulations.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Managing the timely processing of supplier invoices and credit notes, ensuring compliance with our policies and procedures globally, providing guidance to administrators and approvers in all countries as required.
  • Reconciling supplier accounts to statements, ensuring that all variances are investigated and cleared as necessary.
  • Support supplier onboarding and due diligence, as well as assisting in the development and maintenance of a supplier register.
  • Accounting for all bank transactions, allocating cash and reconciling cash balances
  • Manage NRC's AP e-mail account, physical records and update all documentation relating to the role.
  • Provide guidance to other regions supporting Accounts Payable.
  • Operate within the pre-agreed control framework within finance, demonstrating a control mindset. Continually review the local framework for adherence, where gaps are identified, take personal ownership to define, socialise and embed improvements. Work with all parties to reduce risk and the cost of control within your team and the wider Finance function.
  • Develop / continually improve relations with key stakeholders, play your part in embedding a customer-centric culture where all team members consider the impact on customers and their future requirements.
  • Work with others to support a culture of operational responsibility where individuals take personal ownership for delivery.
  • Assist in the annual audit process

 

Job Skills, Experience and Qualifications:

Essential

· Strong knowledge of accounting package systems.

· Excellent at organising workload and prioritising.

· Proven administrative/analytical skills.

· Highly developed verbal and written communication.

· Exceptional customer focus/engagement.

· Delivering continuous improvement.

· Intermediate MS Office and its associated applications, Outlook, Excel, and SharePoint.

Desirable

· Experience in a low-volume, high-value, complex AP department

· Occupational knowledge of subject areas.

· Educated to A Level / BTEC, or higher.

· Managing improvement projects and processing complex activities.

· Using BST Global’s Accounts Payable system.
