Hybrid Working

We work on a hybrid basis, with time split between our Toronto office on University Avenue and home, depending on the role and business needs.

About the role

Due to continued growth, we are hiring for a Managing Consultant, Safety & Systems Assurance to join our team in Canada on a permanent full-time basis.

In this technical consulting role, you will apply your safety and systems assurance expertise to support the safe and effective delivery of complex rail projects and advisory commissions in Canada.

This is an exciting opportunity to join NRC and play a key role in delivering complex rail projects and advisory services in Canada. You will work closely with clients and colleagues to provide practical expertise, solve complex challenges and help deliver high-quality outcomes across a range of programmes.

You will also work alongside experienced rail professionals from around the world, including Network Rail colleagues on secondment from the UK, gaining insight from one of the world’s most established railway systems across major projects.

Key Accountabilities

In this role, you can expect to be doing the following:

  • Apply system safety and assurance processes across rail infrastructure and systems projects.
  • Lead or support hazard identification, risk assessment and related assurance activities.
  • Review designs, construction methodologies and commissioning plans from a safety and assurance perspective.
  • Provide safety and assurance input across multidisciplinary rail systems and interfaces.
  • Work closely with clients, contractors, operators and colleagues to provide clear, practical advice.
  • Apply your knowledge and judgement to deliver high-quality outputs, manage priorities and resolve issues effectively.

Qualifications and Experience

To be successful in this role, you will typically demonstrate the following:

  • Experience in safety and systems assurance within the rail industry, ideally across complex infrastructure or systems projects.
  • A good understanding of hazard identification, risk assessment and assurance principles in a rail environment.
  • Experience reviewing design, construction or commissioning activities from a safety and assurance perspective.
  • The ability to work across multidisciplinary rail systems and interfaces, applying sound judgement and practical problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to work effectively with clients, contractors, operators and colleagues.
  • Relevant qualifications and/or equivalent experience appropriate to the role.
