About the role:

NRC Australia is seeking an experienced Project Engineer with expertise in Rail Cyber Security to join our team in Sydney, supporting the transformative Digital Systems Program for our client, Transport for NSW.

In this role, you will lead the development and management of cyber security strategies including creating and maintaining a Cyber Security Management Plan, conducting risk assessments, and ensuring compliance with relevant national and international standards. You will apply best practices to deliver robust cyber security management, enabling the efficient and effective delivery of the Digital Systems Program.

What you will be involved in:

  • Develop and maintain the cyber security framework for the program and its stakeholders.
  • Create and update the Cyber Security Management Plan and related documentation in line with project timelines and quality standards.
  • Act as the primary interface on cyber security matters.
  • Ensure integration of cyber security measures across multiple platforms and data streams.
  • Plan and manage penetration testing as part of system integration activities.
  • Lead cyber security governance, including working groups and assurance processes.
  • Provide expert advice and support on cyber security requirements and implementation.
  • Review and validate documentation to ensure compliance with approved frameworks and standards.
  • Contribute technical expertise to operational specifications, policies, and procedures.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and stakeholders to deliver integrated solutions.

Experience & Qualifications:

Essential:

  • Degree qualified systems engineer or equivalent experience with demonstrated experience in cyber security within the rail sector.
  • Background in large-scale rail infrastructure or transport programs.
  • Strong knowledge of IT and OT applications.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders.
  • High attention to detail and ability to capture stakeholder requirements accurately.
  • Strong report writing and documentation skills.
  • Ability to prioritise tasks and deliver under tight deadlines.
  • Skilled in investigating safety-related issues and recommending corrective actions.

Desirable:

  • Experience in the implementation of modern signalling systems CBTC, ETCS.
  • Experience during the development and entry into service phase of new rail infrastructure.
  • Affiliation with recognised professional body.
