About the role

Due to continued growth, we are hiring an experienced rail professional to join our team in VIC as a Principal Consultant for Systems Engineering & Systems Integration with a specific focus on digital signalling. 

You will enable the delivery of new and existing client assignments throughout the state, consulting on systems engineering and systems integration activity generally related to the design, implementation, and maintenance of signalling systems that control railway traffic, ensuring safe and efficient train operations for our clients.

Key Responsibilities

- Providing technical advice for delivering integrated ETCS systems in greenfield and brownfield rail networks.

- Supporting the delivery of digital rail systems programmes which meet the client and business requirements established by the client.

- Providing technical input and supporting the development of technology strategies, delivering and migration options, and technical solutions, considering proven and emerging technologies and approaches and their integration into Railway Operations.

- Providing technical input and supporting the development of operational and maintenance concepts, digital signalling principles, user and technical requirements using systems engineering principles and stakeholder consultation techniques, to ensure the implementation of efficient, effective, and safe systems and working.

- Providing advice for technical requirements to comply with statute, national and international standards, programme governance and assurance, and industry practice.

- Supporting the resolution of systems and integration issues, working collaboratively with multi-discipline teams to achieve resolutions, ensuring solutions meet the needs of the customer.

- Using appropriate systems engineering toolsets to support projects to deliver the management of requirements, architecture, design, standards, interfaces, V&V, change, risk, issues, and other processes in the systems engineering framework.

- Supporting the completion of technical deliverables in accordance with the plan delegated by the project lead, ensuring the required quality level and compliance with governance requirements.

- Ensuring a collaborative approach with the client and all key stakeholders at all times. Cultivating strong relationships with multi-disciplinary project teams, the client, suppliers, and Network Rail Consulting Systems Integration & Technical Services team

- Preparing and contributing to technical and project reports and other documentation.

About you

We expect you to have the following types of skills and experience:

- Degree (BEng) or equivalent in a relevant subject, or extensive demonstrated experience.

- Experience working on rail projects.

- Strong problem-solving abilities.

- High-quality report writing skills.

- Excellent stakeholder communication skills.

- Experience in developing and maintaining effective working relationships with internal and external colleagues.

- Ability to translate client needs into working solutions.

Although not essential, it would be an advantage if you had:

- Knowledge of ETCS Level 2 signalling.

- Familiarity with Systems Engineering approaches.

- Membership of a relevant professional body.

- Knowledge or experience of working in the Australian rail industry.

Work pattern

We expect you to work in our office for 2-3 days a week. However, this may vary based on business needs, and there may be occasions when we need you in the office more than this to support the delivery of client assignments.
