About the role:

Network Rail Consulting currently has a great opportunity for a Director – Systems Integration & Technical Services (ETCS) to join our growing team based in Sydney. The role will be the technical lead for the development, delivery, and acceptance of the technical portfolio of engineering systems for the Digital Systems Program with our client Transport for NSW (TfNSW).  Since 2018, we have been a key partner to TfNSW, bringing together technical and operational functions to deliver a European Train Control System (ETCS) Level 2 (L2) railway with Traffic Management Systems (TMS) for TfNSW's heavy rail network.

You will play a key position on the project which will be the final technical sign off for all the system integration deliverables. This is primarily a “hands-on” delivery role that will require significant subject matter expertise and technical authority in ETCS Systems Integration. The successful applicant for this role will have prior experience in delivering ETCS programs, leadership skills, and the confidence to apply their technical expertise in a consultancy environment.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Operate as part of the Level 1 Management Team on Digital Systems to deliver the scope of the Digital Systems System Integrator Program which meets the client and business requirements established by TfNSW.
  • Collaborate with the Program Engineering Manager to establish the technical team’s priorities and with the Integration Testing Lead to ensure testing and V&V is aligned with the technical team and that focus is maintained on delivery of high risk areas.
  • Be the point of escalation for all technical issues within the System Integrator.
  • Provide advice and guidance on technical issues to the client in support of the System Integration Director at technical forums such as the System Integration Committee.
  • Undertake the role of TAO approver for the sign off for all technical documentation.
  • Provide leadership and direction to the planning for implementation of all rail systems work to support the introduction of ETCS Level 2 and the relevant sub-systems (Trackside, Onboard, FTN, DTRS, ATO, TMS) onto the Sydney Trains network.
  • Direct the development and oversee the implementation of technical specifications, policies and procedures covering all areas of the roll out of ETCS Level 2.
  • Provide leadership and direction to the planning and implementation of ETCS Level 2 and ATO ensuring projects are completed within prescribed timeframes and budgets.

Experience & Qualifications:

Essential

  • Significant demonstrated experience of working on ETCS delivery programs in a leadership role.
  • Relevant professional and academic qualifications e.g. engineering degree.
  • Strong background in Signalling projects, preferably ETCS Level 2, ATO and Traffic Management systems or equivalent systems.
  • Knowledge of one or more of the ETCS L2 sub-systems (trackside, onboard, FTN, DTRS, ATO, TMS)
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills.

Desirable

  • Membership of a relevant professional body.
  • Experience during the development and entry into service phase of new rail infrastructure.
  • Knowledge/experience of working in the Australian rail industry.
  • Chartered Engineer or Incorporated Engineer working towards Chartered status.
