About you:

  • A good standard of general education including English with a relevant qualification is desirable.
  • Ability and knowledge to carry out maintenance inspections.
  • A knowledge and understanding of health and safety regulations in the workplace, including fire regulation compliance and COSHH legislation.
  • Previous experience as a maintenance operative type works, carrying out repairs and maintenance in various trades to a high standard. (Plumbing, carpentry qualification desirable).
  • Minimum of an NVQ or equivalent training /qualification in plumbing, carpentry, ground works.
  • Relevant skills in using a range of hand tools, equipment powered hand tools and light machinery.
  • Landscaping experience desirable.
  • The ability to work unsupervised and on own initiative and complete tasks within a timescale.
  • Basic IT skills.
  • Working in a care home type sector or understand the specialist needs of older people.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality is essential in relation to residents, their families, friends and to Outlook Care
  • Understanding of Infection Control, GOSH, CQC, Safeguarding, Data Protection and GDPR requirements.

Job Role:

This position is responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of Foxburrow Grange including all mechanical and electrical systems, specialist equipment and all of its general contents. You would be expected to carry out minor repairs such as furniture and equipment, plumbing repairs, including unblocking sinks, toilets and drains when necessary and minor electrical repairs, i.e. fuses, light bulbs, damaged sockets and call bells.

We are looking for a general all-rounder who has good attention to detail with a positive can-do attitude, enjoy working in a customer facing role, with a strong focus on providing excellent customer service. Experience is an advantage, though full training will be provided to applicants with transferable skills. 

The Service:

Foxburrow Grange is a 69 bed home with state-of-the-art facilities with an outstanding and friendly team of dedicated staff. The home has been delivering person-centred care for 30 years, is within easy reach of major transport links and close to Colchester town centre. The home comprises of four wings. On the ground floor are 32 bedrooms for residents with dementia, with a further 37 rooms on the first floor for people in need of nursing and/or dementia care.
