If you are looking for a rewarding career and to work within an epic team that will help you grow and thrive, then you have come to the right place. Working within our Suicide Bereavement Support Service you can start your day knowing what you do really does make a difference!

Since its launch as a Scottish Government funded pilot in August 2021, Penumbra has worked in partnership to deliver the Suicide Bereavement Support Service across Ayrshire and Arran, offering support to individuals impacted by the loss of someone to suicide. In collaboration with Change Mental Health’s co-delivery in Highlands and Argyll and Bute, the service has delivered compassionate and person-centred bereavement support, informed by insights from lived experience and responsive to the fact that everyone’s journey through grief is different and unique. Now, having moved out of its pilot phase in March 2024, and as the Scottish Government takes steps to implement its Suicide Prevention Strategy, Creating Hope Together, Ayrshire & Arran’s Suicide Bereavement Support Service looks to remain at the forefront for innovative national development, having being independently recognised as a service achieving positive outcomes for those bereaved by suicide.

The post-holder will work with a creative and passionate team of Practitioners dedicated to supporting individuals exposed to, and immediately affected by, suicide. The role will involve offering emotional support, as well as practical advice and assistance over the phone, by video call or in person. Support is uniquely provided for as long as is required, often to help people navigate the formal review processes and key anniversaries that follow a death by suicide.

The service operates during daytime hours, 7 days per week, with team members working on a rota basis.

As a mental health charity, we really value the wellbeing of our staff. That’s why we want you to know that you’ll be joining a friendly team, who will give you a supportive environment to help you thrive in your role, including all the training you need to feel confident and equipped.

We can offer you a tonne of employee benefits, and we can promise you’ll be inspired by some pretty amazing humans every single day. We will support you on your own career path; developing new skills, accessing formal and informal learning experiences and providing opportunities to put your continual progress into practice.
