Overview:

This is an exciting opportunity to join the further development of the DBI approach, which has widely been recognised as innovative and pioneering.

A Distress Brief Intervention is a time limited and supportive problem-solving contact with an individual in distress.

We are part of a new approach to DBI where we will be working with the NHS24 Mental Health Hub to support people experiencing distress. Along with SAMH, Support in Mind Scotland and some local providers in Lanarkshire we are providing a telephone/video support service for people across Scotland.

The service receives referrals from the NHS24 Mental Health Hub (DBI Level 1). The service (DBI Level 2) then respond by contacting the referred person within 24 hours to discuss their particular issues and the support that can be provided. Support is available for up to 14 days from first contact. Specific training will be given to all staff providing this service to ensure we provide a consistent, connected, compassionate, approach. It is envisaged that currently all support will be provided via telephone/video.

The role of Assistant Support Manager within the DBI (NHS 24 Pathway) service will assist the Support Manager in the management of the service, including supporting and supervising staff, working directly with supported people, maintaining accurate records for reports and Data collection.

This is an exciting opportunity to join Penumbra as we launch new services in Aberdeen City that are designed to provide people with quick access to mental health support.

Aberdeen WELL (Well Empowered Linked Locally) will provide direct access to a community-based team of Peer Practitioners and volunteers.  The team will work with Partners to provide short-term support and will connect people to appropriate support agencies and community resources. The team will also develop peer networks so that people have access to support within their local areas from people with lived experience.

The role of Peer Practitioner has been developed specifically for people who have lived experience of mental health problems.  Through sharing learning from their own experience, Practitioners will inspire hope and belief that recovery is possible. Within a relationship of mutuality and information sharing, Practitioners will promote self-management and opportunities for improved health and wellbeing.

Who are we? Penumbra is one of Scotland’s leading mental health charities offering a range of recovery focussed support services to 1800 adults and young people each week. Our services include a range of mental health support provision, and services for people who have alcohol related brain damage (ARBD). Lived experience is central to all of our work and 20% of our colleagues are employed in peer support roles.

Many of our services have been innovative or the first of their kind in Scotland as we aim to provide support that is responsive to the emerging and changing needs of people and communities. Our work is hallmarked by our whole person approach to recovery through our IROC Wellbeing Toolkit and HOPE® framework. Overview:

Recovery Workers work in small collaborative teams to provide people with recovery focused support to enhance their mental wellbeing. In line with Penumbra’s values, Recovery Workers assist people who use the service to work towards their individual outcomes and identified goals, as detailed in their personal plan.

SLS West Fife is a Short Term Housing Support Service, providing individuals with short term needs to sustain their home with support and guidance to maintain their tenancies or property to achieve independence.  As an allocated Recovery Worker, you will be providing support and assistance to the supported person to understand the importance of maintaining their property, maximising their income, benefits, how to budget, assisting with correspondence, support the person to get into a routine with daily living tasks, support for the person to cope when attending appointments, to liaise with NHS services, and general support the health and wellbeing of the person.  The duration of Short Term Housing Support to an individual is up to 1 year.

An individual’s support package is on average 3 hours per week, provided by the Recovery Worker usually of two visits a week with the supported person.  The service achieves this through a hybrid of blended support techniques, telephone support, 1:1 video support, group video support, meeting in the community and visiting the person in their home. This post is Part Time of 16.5 hours to be worked ideally over 3 days you will have a Recovery Worker’s diary with an average of 7 supported people.

Covid 19: During the pandemic this post will involve a mixture of homeworking and face to face support in individual tenancies and in the community.

It is an alcohol-free 10-bedded step-down unit to provide short-term care for vulnerable men and women, aged 18+, who have a diagnosis of Alcohol Related Brain Damage (ARBD).

The emphasis on the unit is to maintain capacity to reduce delay in acute hospitals whilst providing an environment conducive to rehabilitation and recovery from the patient’s cognitive impairment.
