Overview:

Penumbra is one of Scotland’s largest mental health charities. Through our innovative recovery focussed approach to mental health support, we offer a range of services in communities across Scotland, and our teams support around 1800 adults and young people each week.

We are a level 2 partner in Distress Brief Intervention (DBI), so this is an exciting opportunity to join Penumbra as part of our DBI team in Ayrshire as the service expands.

DBI involves working with frontline partnership agencies to deliver a two-tiered intervention to people who are experiencing distress. Responding to referrals within 24 hours, the DBI service offers a person-centred approach, utilising a wide array of supportive tools to work with the referred person over a period of 14 days. We deliver community-based problem-solving support, wellness intervention and distress management planning, as well as signposting, to help equip the person with strategies and resources.

We have been leading the delivery of Distress Brief Intervention services in other areas of Scotland for the last three years. This is an innovative and award winning approach, working with front line services such as GP’s, Emergency departments, Ambulance and Police. These services can refer people to the DBI service where they will be contacted within 24 hours and offered up to 14 days of support. Penumbra’s work is values based and aims to ensure that people get the right support at the right time.

The DBI service is now expanding to Ayrshire and Arran.

The role of the DBI Recovery Practitioner is to assist people who use the service to establish and maintain a meaningful and fulfilling life in the community, with a focus on distress management planning. Working collaboratively with the national DBI Programme and with the local DBI partnership, you will form part of a large team of people across the organisation and the wider partnership. Your role will support local DBI delivery and implementation to deliver compassionate, connected support to the communities of Ayrshire and Arran.
