What is the role?

We are seeking an experienced Data Protection Manager to assist the Group in responsibly managing the personal data we hold and ensuring that we comply with data protection regulations.

The quality, security and management of our data is important to us. The Data Protection Manager will work with the Data Protection Officer to ensure that our data protection policies and procedures are working effectively.  We are becoming more digitised as a business and we now require a full-time employee to work with our in-house teams to ensure data protection remains effectively incorporated into our policies and procedures.

The role will include:

Compliance and Governance:

  • Maintain our data protection policies and ensure that they are properly implemented throughout the Group.
  • Ensure that we remain compliant with UK GDPR and other relevant data protection laws.
  • Conduct regular assessments to ensure data protection measures are effective, including as we introduce new digital processes.
  • Oversee and manage requests related to data subject rights (e.g., access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability, and objection).
  • Lead and coordinate DPIAs for new projects or processes involving personal data.

Risk Management:

  • Identify and mitigate any data protection risks, including developing and maintaining a risk register related to data protection.
  • Investigate and manage any data breaches and incidents, including reporting to regulatory authorities when necessary.

Training and Awareness:

  • Developing and delivering the Group’s data protection training and guidance to employees remains relevant and up to date. Help to promote a culture of effective data management and protection.

Liaison and Communication:

  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure data protection is integrated into all relevant business processes.

What we need from you?

Experience:

  • Several years of experience in data protection, information governance, or a related field.
  • Recent experience in a similar role, with knowledge of the UK GDPR.
  • Experience in managing data protection compliance within an organisation.

Technical Skills:

  • Good understanding of UK GDPR and data protection laws.
  • Familiarity with data protection impact assessments (DPIAs) and data breach management.
  • A CIPP/E, CIPM, or other relevant data protection certification is desirable.

Soft Skills:

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
