What is the role?
Persimmon Homes South East has a vacancy for an Estimator to join their successful and growing team. This role will be working across projects in the Kent and East Sussex area and the regional office is based in Maidstone, Kent.

The purpose of the role is to assist in the financial appraisal of sites and to ensure land is purchased as accurate and as efficient as possible. The Estimator will report to the Land Director and Commercial Director and will form strong ties with both departments.

What you’ll do as an Estimator

  • In conjunction with technical and engineering departments, you will prepare detailed cost estimates of developments separately identifying standard costs and abnormal costs.
  • Maintain a library of base construction costs for our core range of house types, based on latest cost information from recent contracts, that have been awarded. It is essential that you are able to produce land viabilities in order for senior management to be able to assess the sites profitability and cash flow for each new development.
  • The successful candidate may be required to present their cost plans to the board, external organisations (e.g. Local Authorities, land agents and District Valuer) along with landowners.

What experience do I need?

  • Previous experience of Master Planning / Cost Planning of residential development and estimating costs of developments based on preliminary planning drawings without detailed engineering design or architectural design including identifying potential costs not detailed on drawings
  • Demonstrate sound quantity surveying skills
  • Must be proficient on excel, word and outlook and have an understanding of groundworks (e.g. roads and sewers as well as plot works) and be able to take off engineering and planning drawings
  • Eye for detail, reliable, organised, enthusiastic and have a positive attitude
